Recording Mixes - HELP!!!

Recording Mixes - HELP!!!

Howdy,

Last week I tried to record my mix using traktors recorder, which did not work due to me having it set to internal. My question is how do I record my sets via Traktor Pro 2 using my Audio DJ 2 sound card and maybe audacity:tada:

If you’re mixing internally, traktor’s recorder ought to work just fine. If you want to use audacity, just have it listen to the soundcard and take the sound off that (there should be a preference for input settings).

Should work just fine on internal mode.

I figured I would use this thread instead of starting my own.

Can anyone help me out in regards to recording sound quality with Traktor.

Right now I can record into .wav format with no problem. The volume is still a little bit low, but I solve this by bumping up the gain a few notches in Audacity.

I would like to be able to convert the file to 320kbps mp3s, but when I do this the sound quality suffers…noticeably. Does anyone have a tutorial, guide, etc. on how to record the best sounding mix with Traktor in terms of quality?

Any help is greatly appreciated!

do you play wav or mp3 in traktor?

What are you using to convert it from a .wav to a .mp3? And how does it effect the sound exactly?

iTunes. It just sounds muffled, like you must turn the volume up quite a bit to hear it.

Also looking for recommendations for music editing software. I primarily need it to cut sets. Pay software is ok.

If you’re on a Mac get some free software called “Switch” for converting your files. Wouldn’t trust iTunes all that much to be honest.

And make sure you’re getting a strong signal when recording as well.

Thanks. I will try it during my next recording session and post up.

i´m using switch and there is nothing to complain about. i get optimal results

I compared traktor recording to a recording in ableton a couple years ago and I remember thinking the difference was like night and day even with the wav file. Since then I haven’t used the Traktor recorder much at all. Currently I use something called SoundStudio on the Mac; I paid like $80 for the older version but you can get the new version on the Apple store for like $40. Based on the commments there they’re pretty much the same; it’s a good recorder AND simple editor for sound files; it converts between all different sound formats and allows you to do basic editing with the waveform. I like it for recording too as it has an auto-start feature that waits until it hears sound before it starts the recording, so you can fiddle around before you start the recording without wasting space at the beginning of the recording.
