Recording voice through Traktor A6?

Is their a way I can connect my mic to my Traktor A6 connected to my MacBook? I just want to record my voice for a DJ Intro instead of using the built in mic on my MacBook, any suggestions?

Many thanks
Macco

Assuming you use an external mixer that doesn’t have a mic input, you’ll need something with a mic input and line level output to route to your A6. Your best option might be a [relatively cheap] microphone to USB interface, like this one.

Subject to budget and long term need…a USB microphone would be a good investment. Something like the AT2020USB is more than good enough for typical narration and light voice over work.

I’m confused. Do you already own a mic? Is it XLR? 1/4"? They make RCA to 1/4" Adapters that you could use. As for the actual recording you could use the free DAW Audacity. http://audacity.sourceforge.net/

The Traktor Scratch A6 only has RCA inputs that expect a “line level” signal. Something is needed to boost the mic signal to a “line level.” Without that, by the time the vocals are loud enough to be useful, they will likely be too noisy.

The Komplete Audio 6 does have mic inputs on channel 1/2 with a combo xlr 1/4" jacks. That would be usable directly. It would also be an “obvious” place to make such a connection. Given the OPs question, I do not think this is the sound interface they have.

Native Instruments needs a swift kick in the a$$ for having two different sound interfaces with such similar names.

The USB mic solution might offer some additional flexibility and quality for more general purpose recording, subject to budget and overall need.

Depending on the Year of your Macbook the Headphone socket might double as a Mic Input for a regular mic + 1/4 ori XLR > Mini jack (only older Macbooks)

If not, a USB Mic would be the simplest solution e.g. Samson GoMic for $30

OR if you have an new macbook and already have a microphone …

A cheap USB soundcard/dongle like this

I have one and it works a treat - and if you have a mic already would be the cheapest solution

Actually you can use a rockband/singstar usb mic with good results as well if you happen to have one of those lying around. Good to know about the line level on the Traktor Audio 6 I thought it would function the same as my Komplete Audio 6 my mistake.

Hi guys thanks for the replays, I do have a mic and it is XLR - 1/4 inch jack, their is a 1/4 input on my Traktor A6 with a volume knob (Im guessing is for mic). SO my options are to buy this usb cable for my mic? Is their no way i can just plug my mic into my A6 then plugged into my Macbook?

Use the links I posted above and confirm the specific sound interface you have. NI has two “Audio 6” sound interfaces and the details matter.

On the Traktor Scratch A6, the only 1/4" plug is the headphone out. That will not work as a mic connection.

On the Komplete Audio 6, there are TWO combo xlr-1/4" inputs for the mic. There are MANY other 1/4" jacks on the box, but they are all outputs.

Hey Macco, I just checked out some of your other threads to try and get an idea of what other equipment you have and your experiences with your gear.
Do you still use the Hercules RMX to mix? If so, this has a microphone input. Have you tried using this to route your mic to your recording software? I saw a post where you mentioned setting up to record a podcast.. Did you get that working the way you needed it to?
