Reloop Terminal Mix 4 Video Review

Reloop Terminal Mix 4 Video Review

Enjoy

no scratch test?

Nice vid man. Looks like a solid controller.

Really glad Reloop have gone with the rubberised transport buttons. My ONLY gripe with the Digital Jockey 2 was the plastic buttons.

Some nice nostalgia from them tunes as well!!

Wouldn’t mind hearing this too.

Also, why are Reloop still using hard plastic knobs?

Haha! I nearly included one, but it would’ve been more of an ā€œmdcdesign embarrassment testā€ since I can’t scratch for shit.

From a TECHNICAL standpoint, however, there’s no reason you couldn’t scratch like a maniac on one of these. There’s zero sticker drift whatsoever, and DJ Angelo uses one for scratching when he’s not using the RP6000s.

As with any controller, however, your mapping is key really. I’ll post my mapping for this when I finish this set I’m doing, for those who own one of these and like the look of my mapping.

Oh, and for those with a set of Chroma Caps, they DO fit the TM4 according to the fitting guide in DJTT’s shop

Here’s the mapping for you lovely people

If you watch the video you’ll get the jist of it, but here are some further details, specifically regarding the FX section:

The fourth button in the FX section toggles Super FX mode; if its lit, you’re in Super FX mode.

  • Knob 1 is armyofme’s Sweep/Drama effect; button 1 toggles the track kill/echo.
  • Knob 2 is my own Macro FX version; button 2 toggles track kill/echo.
  • Knob 3 is UNASSIGNED, feel free to add your own effects to it in Controller Manager.
  • Button 3 will toggle all three effects on the main FX unit simultaneously; useful if you want to create a sweep WITHOUT killing the track; just kills the sweep effect gently, try it out and see

That’s about it really, the rest of it is pretty self-explanatory.

Looks like Angelo is the posterboy for Reloop, and also he’s using Serato with the TM4. How’s the performance in Traktor though?

Basically the same; no sticker drift in either. I don’t scratch, but I CAN stop the jogwheels on a dime, right on the beat when I need to. I’ve also got mine set rather more sensitively than you would do for scratching, and yet there’s STILL no over-run or lag with them. The capacitive nature of the wheels has been improved significantly compared to when… I think it was DJWorx? reviewed the Jockey 3, which uses similar jogs. They had an issue where even reaching across the jogs would trigger the Jog Touch note; no problems with that on the TM4 though

EDIT: This is what you wanna watch if you’re a scratch guy, it’s pretty insane.

great review. good to see that it can hold its own in traktor too as well as serato dj.

Very nicely done.

Nice review and really awesome controller! Always wanted to map one of this in traktor… Beat me to it

Cheers dude  It’s FAR better in Traktor than it is with Serato, which is quite surprising as it’s designed specifically FOR Serato… but with such a full-fledged controller, it shows off the limitations of Serato better than some of the smaller units.

Since terminal is pretty close featured to an S4 my guess is that this one at it’s price point could affect on S4 sales if Traktor would be the software it comes with. NI wouldn’t like that wouldn’t them

Haha this is true :stuck_out_tongue: To be honest, the ONLY part of the Terminal Mix 4 that needs altering for it to be a Traktor controller are the FX banks; replace the rotary encoder at the right hand side with another knob, and you’ve got yourself a more sensibly layed out S4 with a metal chassis lol.

Actually that’s a point… do any of you modding guys know if it’s possible to replace a rotary encoder with a normal knob without rewriting the firmware? They both send CC signals, the question is would the voltages be in the same range?

If so, I see a mod coming for my TM4 soon :stuck_out_tongue:

why not try and swap deck c & d’s gain for the effect encoders? they are pretty close to one another so only need you to extend their connections to the board with some extra wire.

I don’t think it would work to change an encoder to a knob as an encoder only increments or decrements a value it doesn’t send it’s absolute positioning..

another idea could be to remap the gain to an effect send type of thing like on the Xone-92. map the gain to dry/wet, and the three absolute knobs to the rest of the effect knobs, but the trick would be that the left effect knobs would control effect slot 1 ā€˜deck a’ and effect slot 3 ā€˜deck c’ with the same for effect slot 2 ā€˜deck b’ and effect slot 4 ā€˜deck d’ and you could control the dry/wet of each individual deck with the re-purposed gains.

looks amazing
