S4 not responding “ON” in loop length display
hey guys.
i’m chilling with my bud, spinning a little, when all of a sudden the S4 doesnt respond anymore and the loop length display shows “ON”. we fiddled a little bit with the keylock (shift + play) but nothing special.
restarting the S4 didnt do the trick, restarting traktor did.
i tried searching the problem, but google didnt come up with any good answer.
what kind of error message was this? how can we prevent this from happening? and are there any other solutions than restarting traktor?
(dont want run into this in a live situation)
thanks a lot
I’ve seen this a couple times not sure of the exact cause, but never while using it. It’s always after hotplugging the S4 in.
Try deleting and adding again the default map, since the display only works while using it.
Weird. Sounds like it’s stuck in MIDI Mode. Never heard of that happening before.
really strange. we’ll see if this occurs again.. hopefully not
Got my S4 and flight case from DJTT a little over a month ago. I’ve been loving every minute but just experienced this same error and its driving me completely bonkers.
Traktor works fine and will at random go into this mode. Symptoms on my end:
-The loop noob will fail to stop at 32 bars and will continually cycle through the measure increments resulting in a discrepancy between the S4 and and the value on screen.
-Buttons will not correspond to state on screen, ie: a song will play will the S4 Play LED off, and will turn green as the track is paused.
-hot cues will cease to function
-the shift button can no longer be used to accesses secondary features and when pressed will only disable all buttons and LED lights except for the Loop Size Display which reads “ON”
Any help from the DJTT Crew and forum is greatly appreciated. I’ve got my first midi fighter on the way and just want this headache resolved.

Possible solution
I think there have been some other issues expressed here that I am luckily not having.
But if you experience some strange things happening with your S4’s loop control and cue points etc. Try hitting Shift and Browse. This sends and releases the controller from “midi mode”.
I realized I was hitting shift while my browse mode was still on thanks to a rather stubborn browse button.
This solved my primary problem but now I’m having CrossFader issues. Recalibration isn’t helping.
I would love this damn thing to death if it just worked solidly.
Hope this helps someone else!
I couldn’t agree with you more, man. I have had some great moments using my s4 ..& some scary, frustrating ones
It’s what i want to use.. i’ve had a blast coming up with my own style with it but, if i keep having issues.. i may just use it in the bedroom. gonna try the shift/browser thing now… thanks for the info.
same thing recently happened to me.
I went into Traktor Preferences, clicked on the “Kontrol S4” tab at the bottom left, then I clicked the “Restore” button towards the bottom of the window.
It’s been 3 days, no re-occurrence of the problem.
hmm havent seen this one yet, but shit like this is completely what makes me terrified to use it at a “real gig”… while i bag on the pioneer gear a lot, its absolutely rock solid stable and has been proven that “it will always work”
Do not open Controller Editor while mixing
I got this message when I opened the Controller Editor App. I idrk why but when I launch Controller Editor, the S4 Controller stops working with Traktor software and displays “ON” in the Loop Size section on both decks A and B. Music is still playing but the controller is not recognized by Traktor software anymore, powering it OFF and ON solves the issue but music stops playing if you’re using the controller as Main Output (idk how it behaves when using an audio interface)
Not opening Controller Editor during live session should save you from having this issue
Until now I haven’t seen it appear in any other case, if it does please share it,
Cheers and happy mixing
