I know Q is further down the line when it comes to Scratching and has progressed to the point where its almost like Jazz to him.
He likes the ecclectic sound and to create his own scratch techniques etc. Sara will get there some day too.
I guess that is maybe why his scratching sounded a lil ‘off’ compared to Sara. She was all about the beat and tightness.
I’m sure Q was playing down a little. He’s a nice guy and hasn’t got anything to prove against a 13 year old. By NOT burning her, he’s actually encouraging her to continue practicing.
Qbert seems like a really solid dude. I took up scratching recently, and enrolled in the QSU, and it might be the most helpful place when it comes to learning to scratch.
Give it some years and that little girl is going to be tearing up the competition at the DMCs.
Sara to me it’s like a Qbert clone. The only exception is she doesn’t reverse the x-fader during scratch. About three years ago I wasn’t able to tell what’s what and who scratched better but now I guess I can tell.
Sara is outstanding in her x-fader work, clean & sharps kuts all the way. But for some reason she hardly used any tear, she was only doing forward, backward and drop on her record hand whilst Qbert had amazing (as always) record control tearing the ahhhh.
