I took a close look at the Pioneer at my local GC a few days ago. They didn’t have it plugged in, so I couldn’t check out the motor or the switches, so I just looked at the construction. The platter looks a lot thinner than the 1200, and the gimbals that hold the tonearm look a lot smaller too. The lettering doesn’t look like it will last long either. It might be a good turntable, but it’s no 1200, plus the 1200 has that superior turntable bearing that no other maker seems to be able to duplicate. The scratch guys seem to like it though, but I don’t think the audiophile guys will buy one over a used 1200.
So, DJTT’s black Friday sale has the TS A10 for $250 shipped.
It’s worth that. I’ll still look into upgrading the decks later. And I guess this means I’ll have to find monitor stands my cats can’t knock over.

Good lord - that’s a bargain!
Mos - you sure you don’t mean the A6?
Was thinking of adding another option. (Open a thread on the proper forum.
)
I was going to post a link to it, but yeah…it’s back to $449 for the A10 on the website.
I checked like 8 times before I paid because it seemed like a mistake, but it said A10.
Receipt:
If an A6 shows up, I’ll be returning it. If the A10 shows up, I’ll set it up whenever I can find the time to build the table.
Victory is yours!!! ![]()
I mean…I’m pretty sure that they’re selling it at a loss. And I like DJTT. I don’t want to screw them over.
If they contact me or an A6 shows up with a note that says there was a typo, I’m not going to pitch a fit or anything. I’ll just return it because I don’t want an A6.
I’ve also worked in retail and know that sometimes weird things happen. This seems like a glitch, but who knows? The monkey banana speakers at one of my local shops are like 30%+ off just because they got shipped too many and need the space.
I think DJTT will honor the deal. They’re great guys.
That said, I’d sell the SL1200s if you don’t get the A10. They’re bound to drop in price again. The prices right now are a bit ridiculous, and I’m starting to see a decreasing trend.
Wow! I thought I got a good deal when I got my A10 for $350. You got a smoking deal!
We’ll see what shows up. It also says A10 on the shipping notification. We’ll see how fast FedEx ground is, usually ups gets stuff here from wherever in a day. So, maybe Friday.
Also, it looks like I can steal traktor’s output with jack and use better converters if I decide to go crazy.
And I’m trading putting up drywall for help building the table this weekend.
So…now the hard part…where the hell do I put my speakers?
The A10 showed up. They honored the deal, which is awesome.
I haven’t ABX’d it with my old one yet, but it seems to sound fine.
And it’s actually pretty slick how TSP switches between absolute, relative, and internal…which is handy. Sync seems to be slow to follow pitch fader changes, but I probably have it set to TempoSync instead of BeatSync, which seems like it should “fix” that. And I can still mix the old fashioned way…which is cool, but I’ve really gotten to the point that I don’t enjoy it anymore.
So, I’ll just keep track of how often I actually use them and see what happens. The setup is a lot more cluttered with them than without.
(note: picture was from before I updated the license)
looks ace!
Did they send you an A10mk1 or mk2? Can you fill those speaker stands full of sand? They will be impossible for your cat to knock them over if you can. Did you cut a whole in your table for the mixer? Looks pretty good. I need to take some recent pictures and put my setup on here.
It’s a mk2. I’m definitely happy with it for $250. The chroma cables I also got…let so, but that’s mostly because they’re more pastel IRL than online or in videos…also, they don’t come in a left-handed variety, but I can send the cables off to that side since the hub is under the table anyway.
The stands each have about 30lbs of sand in them, and yeah…they seem pretty sturdy. Without the isolators, the stands definitely vibrate, but they don’t ring. And it sounds better than isolators on the table with or without them (with them sounds better but is more fatiguing). Also, the stands are sized for bigger 8" monitors, or a quick top plate change if I decide to go crazy with something like focal twins (top is 2 layers of 1" MDF). The painting could be better, but that’s what you get painting the side of MDF.
The mixer is in a hole in the table. I’ve also got it raised and angled a bit with wooden shims (like you’d use around a door/window frame) to figure out the height/angle I want for the new tabletop and eventual console.
The next step is cable management and seeing if I can squeeze in turntable isolators to give the X1 cables enough clearance to be set on an angle (also shims), since I like that a little better. I’ve done that before with tennis or raquet balls cut in half, and I think that’ll give enough clearance without being as bouncy as rubber banded ashtrays.
It’s one hell of a snake nest under the table right now, 'cuz I keep adding things without redoing cables…I’m pretty sure half of them aren’t connected to anything.
After that. It’ll be monitor time.
So…after having it all for a week…I don’t use the turntables. And, I don’t really like the experience anymore.
With sync, it just seems convoluted to have them spinning there doing nothing, and traktor won’t really follow the tempo when you start moving a fader. I mean, it tries…but it’s not as fast as if the turntables weren’t there. Without sync, I find myself babysitting that instead of listening to the other things I need/want to hear, like how melodies interact and how bass interference is working out.
Maybe if I still played vinyl …
I’m really close to selling them and just not caring until I have the space for a big NY-style console and the inclination to collect actual records.
If I had that mixer no way would I sell the turntables.
But I do have quite a lot of vinyl still, so I get what you mean.
I think your minds already made up by the things you’re saying - just sell them - you can get some more if you change your mind.
Well you gave it a fair shot, if you are not going to use them, put them up or sell them. With Traktor, you don’t really need them, and like you said, it’s actually easier to not use them. I enjoy using mine, even if they are not doing much. I mostly do mixes to post on the internet, and a lot of those are video mixes of me DJing, so it gives people something to look at instead of just me pushing a couple of buttons. I also enjoy mixing with just a mixer and the X1. I have had mine turntables for ever, so they aint going anywhere, plus I have the room. I probably wouldn’t enjoy them either if I had a small table. So move on and try something else. You will just have more room to get some other toys, and the way things are changing, there are plenty of new things to get.
Why? Is it just the vintage vibe and the pieces going together, or what? I like the mixer mostly for how it works (and how it forces you to work) and a bit for how it sounds. As long as what you’re running into it sounds good, it’ll sound good. Heck, most of the reason I didn’t try to find a DJR-400 is because I’d never use the phono inputs on it.
Then again, I’ve made an amateur career out of doing dumb things like that…the load box I use to run my guitar into my computer (or at a reasonable volume) cost more than the tube amp I use…'cuz I can’t find anything I like other than super-cheap chinese crap and $3000-5000 boutique amp heads (and I’m way too lousy of a guitarist to jusitfy a $5000 amp).
Yeah…easier and more straightforward is good. It’s not like I can’t mix with them, I just don’t care to anymore. And, again, it’s not so much to pay for other toys as to feel better about it. Wifey gave the go-ahead for acoustic treatments as long as they don’t look too obnoxious, so yeah…between the SX, the 1200s, and my SL1 if I can get rid of it, that should make the room (and the future one) sound good enough to justify really nice speakers.
Yeah agreed - it will sound good whatever you plug into it…
I just think a slab of thick vinyl with deep cut grooves sounds better than anything digital - and I know certain digital formats have a wider spectrum, A/B testing, blah blah etc. - It’s just a personal thing I suppose.
And if you don’t have much or don’t want to buy vinyl, then I agree the best thing is probably to not use them (or sell them)
