Serato sl3 or sl4? for output/processing quality…

Hey, I’m debating whether to get the sl3 or sl4. My main concern is the output/processing quality. I know that the sl4 has 2 usb inputs, which is a bonus but in terms of sound quality, which would be better?

I would be recording from a djm800 mixer into a MOTU 828 audio interface (and then onto a computer), so would having the 96khz option (sl4) really be that necessary? Do many other DJ’s actually record mixes using the 96khz, or is 48khz fine? A lot of the files I mix with are wav, only 44.1khz anyway..

I know that both have 24-bit (at the moment I have sl1, which is 16-bit), just trying to work out which is more useful purely based on the quality of the output.

Many thanks for your help as always!

I’m sure the SL4 will have slight improvements over the SL3, you’ll notice a big improvement with either of these compared to the SL1 though.

one thing I’d definitely suggest is linking your djm 800 and 828 with the digital coax / spdif cable to cut the output stage of the mixer out of your signal path.

Many thanks for your reply Oli - do you mean use the digital (spdif) out on the djm800 to the spdif on the 828, rather than the master 2 out on the djm, to analog ins on the 828? This is actually what I’m going to do once I buy the SL4!

spdif

Many thanks for your reply Oli! Do you mean connect from the digital ‘out’ (spdif) on the djm 800 to the spdif ‘in’ on the 828, rather than using the master 2 (djm 800), which is RCA, to two of the analog jack inputs on the 828?
That’s what I was thinking of doing.
Cheers again
