So, being that Bomes has decided to, well, not work on my system in any truly helpful way (still troubleshooting… next is to see if it works on the PK’s without the VCI) but I’m curious if there is any way to allocate a shift function within Traktor? I’m pretty sure there isn’t, but maybe someone found some super-secret work around, or 3.4 does something I haven’t discovered yet.
What I want to do is program the triggers on my PadKontrols that jump cues to have one layer be Cue/Play, and the other layer be Cue/Pause.
Sadly pages are the only way to create those sorts of functions within traktor. You could give GlovePie a go, i likes Bomes more personally due the speed i can pump out pretty complex mappings, but GlovePie can handle shift functions too. It just takes a little longer to do the same thing in my opinion.
Yeah I use glovePie for my DIY projects and it is time consuming to write up the code (the GUI sucks). I have never tried to use it for ready made midi controllers. You might have to route your controller though midi yoke first… but I’m not to sure. I will find out tonight… I can’t afford bomes now, and there are a lot of fun things that I would love to happen.
Nah, the PK doesn’t have a shift function. I can change the whole thing but I’d like to avoid needing to do that, as one wrong hit and everything goes to shit. But it’s an idea.
I’ll see what I can throw together in Bomes over the next couple of days
I spend all day doing tediously boring computer work (and, in fact, might get MOS ceritification next year, which could be cool)… and hate it quite a bit.
But, well, I also like stuff working. So I’ll play around
Welcome to my world, my traktor page is getting rather large especially considering it doesn’t use any of Traktors effects. I can promise you though its well worth the effort that you put into it, having parts of your device change independently or working with one another certainly opens up alot of creative avenues you couldnt do with Traktor pages along. I currently have about 20 or so presets that’s giving my mixer a serious amount of control over the decks. If you can get Bomes finally working hit me up and you can help beta my setup if you like.
Foreverhex - get the free edition of Bomes Midi, there is still a alot you can do without rules that will help rock your setup out
I did ask EKS about what software would be coming with the Otus for the post i did, however i didn’t get an answer to that question in particular. So we will have to wait and see what they plan to pack with it, if anything.
Software to control the device would be a nice bonus, but i wont be holding my breath because not many companies release in depth software for their devices. Even then the software that’s usually released only works for that device in particular and cannot be used for other devices.
As far as my personal mappings would go, I would be happy with software that allowed the user to configure what type of midi messages are to be sent, then use Bomes to help make the device interact with the mixer, which in my case is the VCI-100. This is something i love about Bomes, your devices can interact with one another as opposed to working independently of one another. Looking forward to having a play with this one
Yeah, Bento, I gotta fight with the damn thing again. I think I’m going to start it all over and do everything from scratch. I’ll rebuild the Bomes mapping step by step, rebuild the Traktor TKS, build the PadKontrol TKS’s, and then build the MIDIFighter TKS, but in steps to see when it falls apart. I’ll have a lot more free time now that I’m not DJing every weekend for a few weeks.
If anything I’ll just take it step by step, make sure everything workd in that step by step process (build the preset in Bomes for effects, and then build the tks for effects)
I’m totally not looking forward to this.
Cause then, after I get all of this shit working… I might move on to Ableton Live.
I DL the free version and give it a try. Is it a low priority program? I guess if I can’t live without it I’ll buy it.
Dvls, when you start messing with Ableton you (from what I’ve read) will be very frustrated and you will need to practice with the program a lot. So it will be good to have your super uber traktor set up waiting for you when you need to do a gig.
What do you mean by low priority ? Upgrading to Pro isnt 100% necessary right away but there is some cool stuff you can do with it if you do, the free one does lots of cool stuff that will keep you happy either way Start out with the free version and once you work that out and are dieing to get your hands dirty in the rules you will be well on your way to a very cool setup. The free edition alone will allow you to get rid of Traktor pages which is very cool in itself !
The basics of Ableton are quite easy to learn, however the finer points take a bit longer. Reading will help alot and so will youtube videos
Using Ableton and Traktor together is indeed a bit more tricky and takes some time to work out the strong and weak points of each program in order to get the best out of both programs.
