Although the person who died in Dallas was 19 years-old (as compared to the 15-year old who passed away in LA), are events like these cause for concern? Can Americans just not handle their drugs?
I feel these events should continue but organizers should make a more concerted effort to ensure safety and not solely maximize profits, e.g. more water fountains, do not oversell, etc.
Fucking hell. I was at sónar on friday night and saw a guy getting carried away from the main stage unconscious by a group of random people who must have been dancing near him, I had a great night but I was a bit concerned that such a massive venue didn’t seem very prepared for people getting sick.
I knew some shit like this was bound to happen. I went to EDC Dallas last year and already i thought it was too many people, this time almost twice and many people showed up. So glad i didnt go (4 hour drive would have sucked).
Anyways, i posted this on another forums i go to, I love what Insomniac is trying to do… but in the end they are to blame for all this. I know they tried harder for something like the Cali incident dint happen again, but they really are just greedy promoters like many others out there. they need to learn to cap their damn events at much lower numbers. they could easily cap it at 20k or something but no… why would they miss out on selling 10k more tix @ 60-70$ each… It really just makes me sick that they just care about the money in the end.
It’s been happening forever. Some people can’t handle themselves, and give a bad name to the entire scene/sub-culture. It’s why those drugs are illegal in the first place, because the government here doesn’t think people know how to deal with them correctly.
Don’t get me wrong, I love events like this. But there is no way you get 50k people together, and someone doesn’t go too far. It’s just odds of gambling at that point.
But then again their being illegal is why the stuff that people can buy is laced with all kinds of horrible shit. The lethal dose of MDMA is pretty huge assuming it’s pure, but when you mix it with all the other stuff people put in pills and call them ‘ecstasy’, the chance of something bad happening increases tenfold.
I think the fire marshal had to clear the place regardless. The other building at Fair Park was blocked off and only a few people were inside. I think Wolfgang Gartner played in front of 60-70 people. So everyone was crowded into Skrillex.
Some blame should lie with the Fire Marshall–he fixed one problem, but created the same one but worse
I think without a real answer, nobody should be really blaming anybody. And if there was to blame somebody it would be the idiots who overdose on drugs and stuff because they chose to go that way, not anybody else. They know the risks.
No disrespect to the family of the deceased, but sometimes ppl just can’t hang.
If you’re gonna do illegal drugs like e, then u gotta at least buy before hand and test them for “bad” substances. the kits are legal to buy.
possibly a “bad batch”, I guess.
need more water fountains?? shit. every event I’ve been to this last year, the water fountains are actually OFF. wtf. they just want you to spend money on water bottles and Monster.
I went to an LA event in August last year that went from 4pm until about midnight. It was 100 degrees. They RAN OUT OF WATER???!? No juice either bc it was sponsored by Red Bull. I passed out bc there was no re-entry so I couldn’t drink any water. Whole new meaning to “crash from an energy drink”.
Monster Massive 2008, my girlfriend’s cousin got trampled right in front of me by an aggressive crowd. I had to punch ppl to stop them from walking over her.
Hard Summer 2010, ran out of H20 and no juice bc the event is sponsored by RedBull.
I was gonna go to EDC last year bc I had free tix. saw the videos. too many fucking ppl.
I was gonna go to EDC Vegas this year.. fuck that. Promoters/planners don’t give a shit about anything except money.
