soundcard/audio interface needed for Xone92 & dual k2 setup?

soundcard/audio interface needed for Xone92 & dual k2 setup?

im getting a new bedrom setup, a Xone 92 as the main mixer and two xone K2’s to control traktor loading and effects but im unsure if i need to get a sound card and if so what one and also how the cable routing will work?

want to be able to use all the channels on the mixer and the sound card to be under or around £200 if i need one

thank you for any recommendations

get a cheap audio8 of ebay

Audio 8 or Audio 10 sounds like a good option. You won’t be able to use absolutely everything (not enough IO to use all 4 channels and route both sends back into the computer). The Rane SL4 is also an option (comparable to the Audio10), but it’s more expensive.

It’s actually kind of sad how limited the selection of good halfway-budget audio interfaces has gotten. It seems like everybody is either using a more intense recording interface, an all-in-one, or a mixer with a sound card built in.

What OS are you using?

Do you have firewire, or a spare PCMCIA port on your laptop?

'Cos I’ve got a MOTU Ultralite MK2 (beast of an interface) that would do you…

Yours for £100 delivered.

Just noticed this: DJ TechTools Forums

(not to take away your sale, @Patch, just an option if he doesn’t have firewire)

Firewire cards for laptops are notoriously shit. I’d stay well clear of FW.

I never had a problem with it on my laptop or desktop. Absolute BEAST of an interface.

What makes you say that?

Maybe for cheap PCs.

Basically, the only FW cards that work are Texas Instruments based chipsets. Firewire is a dead standard walking. My advice would be to avoid the hassle.

Agreed. But if he already has a good FW card, it’s an option.

FW was flat out better than USB until USB3 came along what, a decade later. Unfortunately, Apple didn’t have the market share to make anyone use it, and it died a slow and horrible death.

why would you buy a soundcard if you have 2 K2’s …? they have a soundcard

Xone:K2 is a compact, slim line universal MIDI controller – incorporating a 4 channel soundcard, for use with any DJ software.

I never realised the K2 had headphone output on the bottom. Aggregating the two interfaces would work, but jesus, that would be messy cabling.

Yeah, it’s kind of a nightmare, plus you’re necessarily running unbalanced cables along electronics and data cables. It’s worth some amount of money to not bother with that crap.

Worth £100?

I’ve still got loads of firewire cables in my “tub of cables that might come in useful one day” tub. …i really should think about getting rid of them.

for a simple home setup it would be enough, saves a bit of money, agreed that this for on the road is not that, but for a fixed setup might be just fine ..

so going to go with just using the two k2s as the soundcards as its just simplest and cheapest for what my needs are.. but with that said whats the deal with recording through traktor, how would that be done?

You can’t. You’d have to get a digital recorder.

Yes, you can. But, you need to use an audio interface that has an input.

Unless they took it out of a version upgrade that I didn’t do…
