Soundcards question

Soundcards question

I recently bought an X-Session MIDI mixer for use with Traktor/Torq and I need to get a soundcard in order to split the output between the master and headphone channels.

I live in Tokyo and saw the following soundcards in a local store:

  • Creative Blaster Digital Music LX - $47
  • Creative Blaster Digital Music PX - $66
  • Creative Blaster Digital Music X-Fi Surround 5.1 - $84
  • Onkyo Wavio SE-U33GX - $107
  • Creative Blaster Digital Music SX - $112
  • Creative Blaster Digital Music X-Fi Xtreme Audio Notebook - $121

Was wondering if anyone here has used any of these before or if you guys have any advice on any other reasonably priced soundcards (around $100). I’ll just be using it for home DJ use at the moment and maybe try messing around with some production in the future.

Thanks for your help!

Moderators - could you please move my post into the “Digital Dj Gear” forum? I have posted it in the wrong forum, sorry.

Thats where you originally posted it and i moved it, the digital dj gear thread isnt really for asking these sorts of questions so i moved it here.

Ok, thanks BentoSan. You’re one step ahead of me  First post, so I’ll get the hang of the different forums soon enough.

Thats ok, you will probably get more replies in this thread anyway

Stay away from creative, terrible drivers.

BTW are you using a desktop or laptop? echo indigo dj is good if you have a laptop with a pcmcia port.

I agree with Mole, I have been using Echo Indigo DJ for about 2 yrs with no pops or drop outs

Id personally buy something thats dedicated to pro music as opposed to a consumer level device.

Thank you all for the helpful replies. It seems worthwhile so to pay the extra money for a proper sound card, rather than getting something aimed at general consumer level. I’ll check out the Echo Indigo DJ too since I’m using a laptop. Thanks!

The Echo Indigo will do you well

Any suggestions? I was thinking about the NI audio 8 DJ alot … however I really dont have much experience with audio cards beyond an emu-1820 that I use for recording. Where’s a good place to start for cards that are commonly used for pro audio DJ’ing and/or general recording?

sorry if this comes across a highjack - I just thought this would be an appropriate place instead of starting a new thread.

This company is quite impressive imo. I recently received my Audiofire 4… very nice device…
Their entire range is supposed to be very good. I’m planning to use it with my laptop as well, I’ll need a 6pin firewire expresscard though.. unless I want to use the included PSU, which I don’t.

EMU cards are known as well in the audiophile world but they don’t seem to be used alot for dj’ing apparently, perhaps latency issues or just the fact that the 0404usb (which most people have I guess) only has 1 pair of outputs.

thanks for the info …

Anyone out there rocking the PCMCIA cards with their laptop for DJ’ing? I’ve been looking at the emu 1616m … Especially considering its essentially like my other emu card the 1820 just shrunk for the laptop - although the midi looks more like a VGA port than traditional midi … whats up with that?

How do you think one of these badboys would stack up against an NI pro audio 8 Dj? Also i’ll be using a novation remote 25sl as my controller And my laptop just has PCMCIA and usb ports, no firewire so my options are a bit limited as an ACER aspire 1520 laptop …

AMD 1.8ghz , 448mb ram [upgrading soon] and an 80 gig HD.

You can get firewire pcmcia cards, so that shouldn’t limit your options…

lol … stoner moment …

thanks for the memory refresher

Hi Metaverse, did u pick up your sound card yet? Sorry for the late reply…didn’t even see the updates to this post

Will probably go for the Maya 44 USB. Am living in China and found one on a website here for about $140. Only problem is that the software might be in Chinese. Would all the software/drivers I need be available to download for free in English?

creative sound card will not work with traktor as output dont match in mapping i have got one you would need a lot of leads but they are good for home use

Have been using the Maya44 for the last few months and its working fine. Thanks to all for the advice here. Its a great forum
