So, I’ve been looking into switching to analog gear controlling Traktor (mixing externally) down the road. I’d use two CDJs and MIDI map the tempo faders, play and cue buttons to Traktor. But right now I own a 1210 and am learning to scratch. The idea of using two CDJs in place of my S4’s jog wheels and cue and play buttons, and also having turntables…it’s a ridiculous notion. I’d need a DJ table the size of the one at the last supper, for one.
So I was wondering, are there any turntables out there (normal, analog turntables) whose buttons (pitch faders, play, bpm) are MIDI mappable in the same way that most CDJs’ buttons are? I’m guessing the answer is no…
The Vestax decks only have the pitch MIDI mappable I believe (The PDX3000s and the Controller 1). Your best bet would be some Super OEMs or Numark TTXs which have +/- 8%, 10%, 20%, and 50%.
The numark looks prettier, but the stanton is better featured with a 10inch platter, dual deck layers with a motorised pitchfader for switching between them seamlessly, four led ringed encoders with extra lcd screens for naming of effects/cue/loop etc… Shame about the douchey two tone design, but you could paint it or get a skin to make it look a little plainer. That’s as close as you will come to a midi turntable…
If you are syncing then the pitch fader should be of no concern as the software overrides the hardware. That said you should learn to beatmatch if you are using turntables, It makes it much more enjoyable when you get it right.
