Speaker Setup

Speaker Setup

Hello! Im a dj noob right now, trying to get my setup perfect so i can produce/mix some sick beats. I have a Traktor s2 running traktor pro on a Macbook pro. The only thing im missing are some decent speakers. I dont want to cut any wires or splice anything so im looking to avoid that. I just need some good speakers that will run with my s2. Any recommedations?

Thanks!

The most cost effective and best sounding for a beginner is to get a set of bookshelf speakers and an amp/receiver/lepai.

these get rave reviews: https://www.parts-express.com/dayton-audio-b652-air-6-1-2-bookshelf-speaker-pair-with-amt-tweeter--300-651

and small amp of some sort: Lepai - Parts Express

or craigstlist a hifi reciever

or 1st and 2nd generation KRK speakers can be had pretty cheap on Ebay. I like mine. They are self powered and only need to be plugged in.

You don’t need anything special for DJing. Just get any speakers in your budget and you are good to go. Oh and don’t fall for the Rokit trick. That’s marketing. Get some HiFi speakers. Or get some really decent studio monitors if you are going into music production.

Word. This page is awesome. Thanks guys! Much Love.

The rokits are fine for DJ-ing at home. They get good reviews everywhere. Alot of people use them and like them.

Do the rokits just take a Simple aux cord in the back of them? I dont see any RCA inputs or and speaker wire inputs

I recently switched from Rokits to hifi speakers and I am pleased with the change, but a lot depends on the size of your room. Those Daytons are supposed to be excellent and way beyond their price category; that’s great advice paired with a decent amp.

Rokits are great too though and easier to deal with (since you don’t need to add the amp). For a long time I ran Rokit 6+10s but I recently sold them because they put out WAY more sound than I need in my small apartment. I have an old Marantz amp and I added the Pioneer SP‑BS22‑LR speakers (also a great buy at 126/pair) and while they don’t put out anywhere near the bass thump I could get off that Rokit 10s, the sound is noticeably clearer. (Well, “noticeably” means “I noticed it.” I realize these things are really subjective).

As I recall they take 1/4 inch (TRS) or XLR. It’s easy enough to get a cable with RCA on one end and 1/4" on the other.
