My auto-gain is checked in preferences. What I just can’t seem to figure out is how to set it to a certain threshold in the S4 software. The reason I bring this up is because all my songs that I play, end up having some crazy gain levels and I end up clipping like crazy till I manually adjust the gain, is it just me or does anyone else have this issue?
But as far as my channel faders are, most of the time I just put them on full blast at the top, but there isn’t any harm if i just keep them around 50%-75% right? and Then just adjust the main level accordingly correct?
That’s the main level knob top center. Don’t forget the software main level, which I think is probably the culprit here, is separate for the hardware knob. Mine’s set at -6.5 right now.
i agree, i adjust my software master to stop clipping, but auto gain still sets the levels too high… the line level displays are still always peaking for me
LOL… your not, your just new at this i guess. Dont sweat it. We all start somewhere.
Yeah getting a good balance between the master and channel fader is very important.
The Master Output level is controlled on the software. Right in the middle at the Top above the S and Q buttons. People vary as to what is the best setting but generally its between -8.0 and 0:0. Anything above that and your gonna clip.
This volume is independent of the Kontroller Master volume control. THe hardware volume is for the soundcard and you can pump that as loud as you want until the PA or mixer Clips and then pull it back.
Second to the Master on the software are your channel faders.
Sounds like you DJ like me. I have the channel faders around 60% so that i have enough room to mix tracks in and make a statement with a track if i want but, they channels are also driving the master out enough so that you see the peak meters flashing and the the controller master doesnt have to be so high.
Remember that the software wants to play everything at 0:0db so if you keep your master (software) below that point you shouldnt clip.
In Preferences > Global Settings, theres is an option to show the values of a knob on the software when you hover over with the mouse.
This will tell you what the Master volume knob is set to.
while we’re here, im wondering how everyone uses line faders… do you play regularly at full? or do you leave it mid so you can boost volume when needed?
LOL… your too kind… I only use Skype to talk with Rainer who i work with on the Traktor Bible. I need to get away from the computer some of the day !!!
Anyway id only bore you to death, i never shut the hell up… you might have already guess that.
Always at 60% no matter what im DJing on.
I need mixing room for transitions but mainly for scratching.
I always like to know that ive got that bit extra should i need it.
Im rubbish. I mess about, have been doing for years but its nothing to behold.
Scratching, cuts some crappy crabs and stuff but i cant beat juggle for sh*t.
I do it all the opposite way to most scratchers anyway. I dont know any that dont have the faders to the top.
