Just got off with the unhelpful guy on the phone.
Anyway, he said I need an amp.
Im looking at rental amps and I am absolutely clueless. As long as it has the right ports on it will be be suitable or does the amp depend on the monitors ?
thanks

SPEAKON connection ? Neutrik nl2fc? Connecting to my audio 4? :S
Hi there,
I have a gig next week and I checked out the place. In the booth they had two Neutrik nl2fc ports.
I really dont know how I would connect my audio 4 and its audio cables? :s
If somebody could help me out that would be a big help!!!
Thanks!
It shouldn’t matter? What’s the in house mixer? Pioneer? A&H?
Could always plug into the house mixer … or use its RCA/XLR cables.
Your sure the Speakons aren’t for extra monitors or something ? Sounds like a mighty weird setup if not.
It is a weird setup! They don’t have a mixer!
I only use MIDI and an audio 4. There are just 2 speakon wires in the booth and 4 speakers in the room.
Would I need an AMP or something ? :S
Im a noob!
Thanks
Hi there…
am pretty sure neutrik is a brand… they make all sorts of connectors rca’s, xlr’s etc… wat kind of connectors are they? can u tell us more about the room system? amps… speakers… ???
why dont u take pics of the booth and set up…
chubbz
Hi- I had a google and they are Speakon wires -
The place is quite far away so would not be able to go back for photos. But basically its just 4 speakers and the wires seem to run from the speakers and combine into 2 near the booth. I couldn’t see an AMP. :s
The two SpeakOn connectors are probably for the monitors.
A half decent but shitty club still always has a mixer in between the source and the PA.
If not, you’d blast a professional line signal (+4dB) into the amps, the amps are probably set at full, everbody gets real deaf real fast.
And even if it’s not for the monitors, SpeakOn is simply a locking plug that can be used for just about anything.
They were the only wires/ports I could see where I could possibly plug in audio cables :s
Is there some kind of adapter that can link an RCA to a speakon connecter?
Or is that not a likely option ?
thanks
When you visited, was there a mixer and monitors in place?
There was no mixers - 4 monitors around the room -
Its not at a club, its in a function room above a pub and so this is why it is unfamiliar for me.
I am really worried I may have to cancel :s
Usually speakon connections are used to connect passive speakers to an amp.
Either they have an amp, which in my experience can take rcas from ur audio 4, or they have powered speakers which means that one speaker has an amp built in and the other speaker runs off the first, these could have anything from speakon to RCA to 1/4 to friggen clip in wires lol
They most likely have an amp so if you phone up and ask them what amp or speakers ( if they are powered) and then look em up online.
When I go to a gig like this I usually bring my box of wires and adaptors
Wondering why you didn’t ask them about this when you went to check the place out?
Hi –
Thanks for the help! I have rang up and they said they do not have an amp! They said I need to bring one which I find ridiculous!
Anyways I have seen a rental shop online near me. Will any amp do the job pretty much ?
the ones I have seen have nl4fc outputs. However the speakON wires he has at the venue are nl2fc? are they universal all the speakON outputs on amps ?
Thanks
Oh and when I checked the place out the guy was very unhelpful and said “how would I know im not a DJ”. I had to ring up later on to find somebody worth speaking too
In that case, just say “sure”. Bring a technician friend and charge them the rental expense, driving expense, technical expense and installation expense. See what they say when you lay it out like that. It really bothers me when clubs or café’s act like that.
Yeah, I was going to say that they should be paying for the amp rental in that case. But don’t try and be clever and lay on the extra charges after the gig, as they might refuse to pay unless there’s some kind of contract in place.
I would be thinking exactly along them lines! But sadly its a private party for a friend who has unfortunately already booked the room ![]()
However I will make sure my friend definitely gets some of the money back, I would still like some advice though as I have never setup an AMP before so have no knowledge.
You gotta try and match the power output (in Watts, eg 100W) of the amp to the specification of the speakers. You’ll need to ask the venue about this, or go back and check it out. Tbh, if I were you I’d strongly advise your mate to find another venue, it sounds like a whole bunch of hassle for you.
