Been a member here for a while and just reaching out
So me and a fellow producer are starting a House music record label - we’re releasing tracks as production duo “Club of Jacks” and the record label is “Club of Jacks Records”.
Any label bosses out there with any advice for a newcomer to running a record label? What’s the best way to get a following? Should we sign remixes from well know producers maybe?
We will be releasing deep / jacking / bass / house / garage sounds.
We’ve got distribution lined up so these tracks should be in all good digital stores with in the next 3 - 4 weeks.
The website is up and running with some soundcloud playlists of the first two Eps:
Defo do!! We looking for demos for sure! All tracks were mastered by delicious studios - they do like Rudimental / Clean Bandit etc. My mate is one half of the drum and bass producers Artificial Intelligence… he helped with the mixdowns too etc
I also run a Label, as well as released music on 2 other labels…
your top priority is to get a lawyer/manager to write up some contracts for the future.
you need a facebook, twitter, youtube, and soundcloud to be considered a label by most distributors and stores.
seeing as its Electronic music check Out labelworx.com and their services and distribution offer (amazing stuff)
check out mailchimp as well for mailing lists, although Labelworx should handle a good chunk of that
you are most likely gonna loose alot of money good luck
another important thing is to keep tracks private until release date, 2 weeks before the release you can send out a 1:30 demo on the cloud of sound…
also when sending promos to artists and labels, make sure you send them at least 1 month before release and be prepared to wait 2 weeks before a response if you even get one…
Nice - good tips - we are using label worx for distribution and we got most of our social media sorted (links on website - http://clubofjacks.com/) and got mailchimp too.
Digging the combo of Old School & New School in the tracks. The only critique I can give is that I’d love to hear the tracks have a little more room presence. Perhaps panned a little wider?
I hate trying to describe auditory sensations on a forum. It’s always tricky. I hope this helps.
