studio monitor opinions

anyone got a preference on powered monitors? I’m looking to get something between a 5" to 6.5" woofer since they will be sitting on my desk.

would prefer to stay around $300 for the set, cheaper is better but I do not want to sacrifice quality to save a few dollars.

a few choices i’ve found so far are (not buying from muscisian’s friend, just using their website for product reference)

something along those lines is what I was looking for, any recommendations would be greatly appreciated

Mackie

You’ll probably find help here:

+1

+2 on the mackies.

Three in a row.

ok thanks guys, I was thinking about going to jbl or db technologies, but i’ve only had experience with 15" monitors form those brands and i’m old now so having 15’s in my room is not going to happen

looks like the mackie s5 is $299 from most places with free shipping so they fit right into my budget. does anyone have opinions on the mackie s5 specifically? should this model be good or do I need to look at another? here’s a pic of them:

went ahead and bought these, as i need a set asap. thanks for the input everyone

if you’re setting them on your desk, i’d highly recommend a set of auralex MoPads to cut down on the sound transmission. they also come in handy for positioning on small surfaces, since the foam is so dense you can hang the back edges of the monitors a few inches over the desk.
