Suggestions? I’m upgrading from the Numark Mixdeck Quad
Disclaimer: I’m not nearly as cool as the rest of you. I’m a bedroom “dj” that makes weird improvised mixes [soundcloud = notethetime]
But I’m looking to get smarter and improve my setup, as I’ll be potentially starting a podcast or radio show in '18.
I currently have a Numark Mixdeck Quad. It’s awesome and suits just about all my needs. But it’s OLD. I’ve had it 4.5 years, and the thing was manufactured years before that.
I have never used Serato. I used to be against “computer deejaying” – now I don’t care, but I am honestly fine with USB sticks (the Mixdeck Quad splits the input from one, or you can plug-in two; plus access CDs, vinyl, etc).
The one thing I have grown accustomed to enjoying is Spotify via Algoriddim’s Deejay Pro, which I use via iPad.
Spotify is actually incredibly helpful for when I don’t have a track on vinyl or mp3. So this app has become a non-starter, unless you recommend some way to thread that through Serato (I have heard it’s dicey at best).
Looking around here [DJ Controllers, DJ Mixers and other DJ Accessories | Algoriddim], I am swooning on the Pioneer rigs a bit. But a lot are also overkill. I don’t need a visual screen, I don’t need a ton of pads, and I don’t need to spend $3k.
But here’s what my wishlist is – just putting this out there to see if any lightbulbs go off:
– I need something compatible with Spotify (preferably Algoriddim software)
OR I need to learn how to access tracks via Serato that I do not have digital copies of or vinyl access to
– I need at least (1) if not (2) turntable inputs
– Would be great to have a USB / microSD input so I don’t have to bother with Serato
– Does anyone recommend any rigs that control Algoriddim via the physical controls? Would be great to ditch the iPad.
– Impressive FX or sampling capability would be fun
– Any combination of the aforementioned with tweaks and modifications you recommend, in case I haven’t thought of something
Thanks for reading all this. I have no idea if there’s something right in front of my face. I’ve looked at a lot of Numark upgrades, and am kinda leaning towards the Pioneer components; but there’s so much overkill, so it’s tough to thin it out.
