Switching between using Traktor for Timecode and non-timecode
I used to use Traktor Scratch Pro II with timecode CDs and Pioneer CDJs, 2 decks timecode and the other two decks no timecde, now I have Maschine and 4 tracks decks, everythings synced up with MIDI clock for Maschine etc.
So, is it possible for me to set up timecode again, and be able to just switch back form my normal set up, to traktor with timecode, for when i just fancy using some decks? I have two Vestax TT’s and would like to give my timecode vinyl a little spin, how do I go about doing this? So i can choose, when i play out, whether to play with my normal 4 track deck set up synced with maschine, or whether i just want to play with timecode vinyl, or CDJ.
Should i set up timecode vinyl, and then export the settings, and then just load up which ever settings i want to use (normal, or time code cdjs or vinyl), is that right? Can i swap through them just like that when i want?
In case I confused anyone, I want to be able to swap between JUST using the laptop for decks, to using timecode vinyl decks. I’d want everything else to remain the same like FX etc, but of course just be able to timecode vinyls, and then import settings to be able to go back to using laptop decks..
Is that all I have to do? Of course apart from using 2 extra RCA cables to connect, and setting the 2 Traktor decks that I want to use as timecode to ‘phono’ in the audio 10 control prefs. That’s it?
Two things I noticed today, I can hear a kind of hi-freq beep noise when I’m using timecode vinyl.. Not sure if this is just a calibration issue or not, and secondly, I couldn’t adjust the tempo on the Turntable of tracks I was playing..
You need to set the correct audio input routing yes. You shouldn’t be hearing the control tone unless you have one of your decks set to Live Input or have Direct Thru enabled somewhere.
Okay cool. Strangely I can hear the tone noise, I’ll have a further look at the settings and see. Do you have any idea why I can’t adjust the the tempo on the TT’s?
Yep, I have full control of my tracks with the timecode vinyl, but when I try to speed the record up manual without using the vari-speed and the tracks just jumps and I loose my beat match.
Nope, I made sure I had that turned off. In thinking it might be to do with my global section prefs, I have ‘master’ ticked, I’ll try setting it to auto maybe?
That’s all fine then, no idea why I’m having problems. My calibration looks bad tho, has yellow lines going through the blue circle, and has a big red arrow in the middle of it…
Is the high pitch tone just the sound of the timecode vinyl coming from the needle?
Turn your amp or speakers down and see if the volume of the high pitch tone changes too.
I’ve cut and readjusted earth cables and the warning message has changed from deck B, to deck A now, really dont know why it keeps saying it. and im really not sure, its just constant, i cant hear it when i turn the volume high up tho. Main worry is the calibration icon, with the red arrow in the middle of it, also, is there supposed to be a line going through the circle?
Okay that’s good to know then, when I spin the timecode vinyl the pitch of the tone changes along too, so I guessed it’s just normal. I’m having problems with it still though, it keeps saying “right deck disconnected, check cables”.. All my RCA cables are in properly, and it keeps telling me there is 'ground hum, check grounding wires", I have earthed everything properly, so confused in what’s happening here also..
Last thing. The calibration, what is the visual icon supposed to look like, an orange circle? Because mine is a blue circle with an a orange line in the middle, that normal?
