Sync iTunes Playlist to Traktor automatically

Sync iTunes Playlist to Traktor automatically

I need to sync some playlists automaticly to Traktor.

Thanks in advance

Doesn’t it already do this? Just open up the Itunes node in the traktor browser, and all the playlists should be there.

If you want to automatically import the playlists from the itunes node into traktor (so that they show under the traktor playlists node) Then as far as i know you cant. You have to do it manually (which is the way I do it).

Thanks for your response. Can you explain the manual way.

Create the playlist in Traktor, then drag the tracks from the iTunes playlist. Voila! I have the do this all the time…it’s a pain.

I’m hoping Traktor releases an update in the near future that allows for full iTunes integration.

Or just right click on the playlist in the itunes node and click import playlist. No creating of the playlist needed!

I have no idea if this would already update an existing playlist of the same name though, i always delete the playlist in the traktor playlist node before importing the itunes playlist.

Ahhh yes, forgot about this.

I don’t understand why Traktor can’t just mirror iTunes. I would LOVE to see that upgrade.

You have to update the playlist in traktor each time it changes in iTunes. Except for the iTunes node it will not stay in sync in Traktor.

This is one of the things that I really hope they update in the future. I can’t fathom why Traktor has all of the integration with iTunes but makes you manually import iTunes & any iTunes playlists every time. If you just browse the playlist in the “iTunes” section of Traktor it’s sketchy about displaying\reading the BPM, Grid, etc.

So you right click it, import into Traktor playlists etc, which is fine and dandy until you have to update it. Then Traktor wants to overwrite it or create a copy, instead of just updating the list.

I have become ruthless about rating, genre-ing, using the comments section, etc. when something goes into iTunes. This little bit of upfront work automatically populates a bunch of smart playlists I have set up for everything from genre to key to mood (BANGER, GROOVY, FUNKY, SYNTH, BEATS, etc.). Of course this work is largely wasted as there’s no way I’m going to manually delete then update umpteen playlists every time I open Traktor. As a result I find myself sorting by import date in Traktor more than anything (which presents a new problem since 2.5 and my F1, that being hundreds and hundreds of loops scattered throughout my “normal” tracks when I’m browsing. They REALLY need a switch now to disable display of loops and one-shots in the browser).

Just seems like they could easily configure Traktor to sync\import iTunes data automatically.

Me too

Or just use the iTunes playlist directly in the Traktor browser under the iTunes folder, no need to copy it over as a Traktor playlist. Problem solved.

I think the only reason someone needs to copy over the playlist is if they have multiple iTunes collections or they want to have a custom modified Traktor playlist based on the iTunes one.

Note that this is a one-way street, Traktor will not modify iTunes playlists and that is good as I don’t want other apps to mess around with the iTunes database.

I do this, but I would still rather work from the Traktor playlists. I use the favorites feature at the top for the most part.

You have to import it the Traktor library to analyze anyway.

I just want Traktor to mirror my iTunes playlists in the Traktor library. I don’t want to to go back and change or edit anything regarding the actual iTunes library and playlist setup.

The direct analyze would make sense. File NI a bug/feature request. Same with having the iTunes play list shown up in the featured folder section. I wish Traktor would support more id3 tags that are available in iTunes, sigh, too.

Anyway, as long as Traktor does not do anything with the iTunes xml file, that would be nasty-bad.

Agreed. I sometimes like to rearrange tracks in a playlist, and in the itunes node you cannot do this. Also use the favourites feature which is not possible with itunes node.

I have my favourites in Traktor set up with the library and playlists from my Itunes. I’ve only done this since updating to 2.5.1 so not sure if this is something that’s only just been implemented.

A huge advantage to this is that if you set up smart playlists in Itunes then you can have all your favourites (eg: Genres, everything imported in the last 4 weeks etc..) update automatically. Then unless you are creating specific runs of tracks, you should never have to actually create another playlist again…

I only play from the iTunes node. Sure, you can’t edit the ID3 information from there, but do you need to while playing? Nope.

The other thing about the iTunes node is that you can’t see the cover art, which is big deal for some people. You don’t get all the tag information from the iTunes playlists either, so you don’t get key, label, comments 2, remixer, producer, mix, catalog no., release date (?)…

Also the tracks in the iTunes node only get analysed when you load them in to a deck or import them to your collection, which isn’t a problem if you’ve got Traktor set up to import all your tracks in iTunes on startup, but if you’ve got a load of junk in your iTunes library you don’t want to import and analyse it can be a bit tricky.

The ability to copy your iTunes folders and playlists in to your Traktor collection is something you can do in Trainspotter, you can also copy your Grouping tags across to your Comments2 field in Traktor.

‘you’ve got Traktor set up to import all your tracks in iTunes on startup’ - how do you set this up? Will it group the tracks in Traktor by the playlists you have set up in iTunes?

I think what he means is that he has set traktor to automatically import all the files in a specific folder into traktor when it loads. The option is located in preferences/file management (i think). Its the music folder setting. And then another checkbox somewhere else to tell traktor to import all songs in this folder on startup. It doesn’t import any itunes playlists, just the audio tracks.

Does it have to be in mp3 format or does it play m4a? All mine are m4a and it doesn’t play squat. :disappointed:

mp3, m4a or both?

Does it have to be in mp3 format or will it play the m4a format out of itunes. It see’s the tracks but they won’t load into the decks. :disappointed:
