So we’ve bought an S4 and it works perfectly as expected. What we now want to do is sync Ableton’s (second laptop) clock with Traktor’s clock via a MIDI-USB Cable. OK, We bought the cable (midimate 2), what now?
If anyone would be so kind to explain the needed settings in detail + what not to do, I’d appreciate it very much.
ps; We looked up some tutorials, and it has worked once, but it almost seems Ableton’s choosing randomly if it will or won’t receive the midi-information. Or maybe Traktor won’t send it. Or maybe the S4 won’t process it. There’s nothing wrong with the cable 'cause Ableton can send clock and the cable detects it (flashing leds).
be sure of pressing the play button at the master clock and chose master clock as option
as for me am having a problem with ableton the tempo is just jumping around up and down
both traktor s4 and ableton on same pc wonder if any one had this problem too
We’re both on macbook pro’s the one with ableton is from summer 2009, we use it’s internal sound card. We know about the play button, but we’ll have to try the master thingy this weekend. I highly doubt that’s the solution, though.
Comments appreciated.
1º create a computer-to-computer network with one of the macs and have the other one connect to it or hook them with an ethernet cable (you don’t need to worry about routers or depending on the venue connection with either choice)
don’t forget to choose the “Live Routings” (MIDI IN/OUT) in the midi network setup window on both laptops. the rest of the process is pretty much the same as the one hooking both programs on the same computer, but without using jackosx/soundflower, etc
ps: i know there was a good tutorial about this online, but can’t seem to find it now
Thank you very much padi_04! I tested it with Ableton to Ableton (one version on my brother’s mac) and it worked brilliantly, I assume it’s the same with Traktor to Ableton.
