The battle of the budget 25 keys

Hi guys, Just had an interesting question, what do you think is your preferred budget 25 key? M-audio Oxygen 25 (New name oxy 8) Akai MPK, or any other alternative? What do you think is the best on the market right now?

Mpk mini for me, love it.

There’s also the Alesis Q25 which is cheap and small but has full size keys rather than mini ones.

MPK mini. Bought one about a month ago and don’t have a single regret.

100% the MPK mini.

While the MPK mini is a wonderful piece of kit you gotta remember that it does have half throw keys and as a result isn’t really suited for real playing. But if you just want a midi controller and are going to use it for a bit of production it’s completely fine.

Another downfall of the MPK mini is the knob size. Although i know there is a thread somewhere here about replacing the knobs with a decent set.

Oh yeah, I forgot about that. Pissed me off with my lpd8 and it will again when I find another use for it.

picked one up yesterday; excellent controller.

if you don’t need knobs and pads, Q25 is the best, aftertouch and real midi port.

If you want pads though it isnt for you.

I have the mpk mini,
and Im surprised to see so many people say they LOVE it?

do you guys not have problems w/ the pads turning themselves on on their own? it’s a problem known w/ all akai’s lower range midi controllers, even the mpk24.

I’ve been looking into the M-Audio Axiom as a replacement as I don’t feel too confident laying live w. something that could drop a cue point(i use the pads for cues 1-8) during a mix.

can anyone tell me how the pads are and if there are any known issue’s with them, i.e. turning themselves on.

interesting, maybe you got a lucky model, lol. got my first taste of it the 1st week i was playing with it, then a friend of mine told me how his mpd24 was acting the same way, he’ll be mashing away and say pad 7 or 8 will activate on its own, for me it’s sometimes a quick hit,but also a long hold.

quite annoying, though I picked it up for $75 so I guess I wasn’t too shocked, but now you say you’ve never encountered the problem, that just pisses me off haha.
