The Midi Fighter Twister ideas thread

Doesn’t seem to be one around, thought I’d start it off.

Looks fantastic all round to me, although I would like to see a demonstration of it used with synth samples as opposed to drums and then the pitch altered, allowing you just get one shots and then alter the pitch yourself. This may be a function already on that wasn’t displayed on the drum sequencer demo, but if it’s not a feature I think it would be mind blowingly cool to add into it!

not sure youre going to see too many if any demonstration vids for it as its not in a final production stage yet either.

Lets let them get the kinks out first, then we can all master the channels

@Sambo

For now it is just a drum sequencer, however Ive been playing round with an alternate 3D/Spectra firmware with the intent of making a melodic sequencer as a companion, the big problem here is NI did not make the sample pitch setting MIDI accessible, I created some code which uses the HID functionality to access this, but because it lives several menu’s deep in the F1 it takes about 200 ms to reliably alter the pitch. We are hoping we can convince NI to make the pitch midi accessible in a future release, then we can do some seriously cool stuff!

Eitherway feel free to post questions, thoughts, and ideas for the Twister, Ill try and answer quickly!

@midifidler - Do you think the MF banking could be easily shared from one unit to the other ?? Would be cool if we take a Twister and create a mapping that supplements to some of our already existing mappings for Spectra and 3D. This thing would rock!

All the Midi Fighters already have MIDI IN control of the bank selection, which I added for this exact purpose, I’m yet to see anyone take advantage of that though.

Gotcha :sunglasses: Good to know that you’ve already think of a solution for bank selection using MIDI.

Thanks for your reply.

Ok I did see that in the Spectra manual.
I would like to know how you would go about sending the bank change note message from one MF to another. Would this be possible with just Traktor?

Assuming that 3D, Spectra and Twister send and receive the same MIDI note on bank change this should be easy as setting them all in the same mapping device with “All Ports” check at MIDI in-port and out-port. I’ve managed to force bank change by tweaking note on my CNTRL:R but all the midifighters should be able to accomplish this by default.

I thought of all ports, but knew it wouldn’t work for 2 MFs. Making one device for the different MFs to share bank change info solves the problems. Brilliant!

How about dedicating one device for banking and target other devices to unit one and two.

@midifidler - One question about internal sequencer please. Is the sequence limited to four beat count as we have seen it in the vid or is it expandable up to 8, 16 or 32?

Hey Stewe,

For now it is limited to a four beat count, one we have done some user testing Ill consider making it a utility configurable option.

Sounds great. I can imagine a modifier doing the trick here but allowing that option in firmware would relieve many other ideas since both of modifier conditions come available.

And the velocity is great idea. In addition I’d love to see one unique CC massage that extend along entire sequence length or maybe addressable in between certain steps. Then let MIDI trough so that way the value is always in movement. This would allow smooth parameter control adjustable in Traktor rotary sensitivity and direction should be possible in button settings. I’ve emulated something like this in my automation mappings and think would be cool to easily design by default.

Hey Stewe,

The way that it is implemented is you can set the velocity of each of the 16 steps, but then there is also a master volume which scales the velocity setting over the entire range

Will i be able to map the knobs to make a rotary 4 channel mixer?
i would be looking to get this if it will be possible!
top 3 rows will be the equalizer and the bottom row for the volume.

press the bottom encoders for monitor/cue etc..

would be nice idea though.

That would be no problem. Also EQ kills on the push button encoders.

that’s what I am thinking. how I wish it would be below the $200 pricetag they mentioned in the blog.

What i really don’t want to see is DJTT sacrifice quality to get into a price bracket. I will start off by saying that I’m no fan boy but let’s face it, DJTT makes some quality shit. I have 2 MFCs and a MFP and they are built like brick shit houses. That being said, I would personally rather pay more and get a better product. II’m a buy once, cry once type of person. If DJTT keeps production in the US and keeps using quality parts, I’m willing to pay whatever is warranted for this controller. Can’t wait to get my hands on one.

much love.

1.idea
a additional button that would work as a (hardware) shift button, since all knobs are rotaries, you very easily double the number of controls this way, especialy useful, for it to be a more ableton friendly controller.

  1. idea (its a bit out there)
i would add one velocity sensitive pad and the ability to play and record your pattern. i found myself working with maschine, that alot of times it is eazyer for me to come up with a patter by playing and recording it, and then going in the step sequencer mode and adjust it if necessary.

3.maybe some kind of ability to change the position of a pattern. i couldnt find how many patterns are there, so lets say there are 8. Im playing a song and i have a snare in the remix deck, im going through the patterns and i hear that pattern number 2,4,7 go with the song, now i would like to put them together so i can switch between them seamlessly .

Hope you understand my ideas.

Denis

#1. It has the 6 side buttons like the Spectra and 3D so… DONE
#2. No room for it. :disappointed:
3. Good idea, Definitely need some LED feed back to make it usable. Just a swap command of some sort.
