The Perfect Mixer?

My old roomie left one of these in front of my bedroom door when he left last year. I knicked the pretty silver fader paddles and put them on the KDJ500 I had at the time.

It’s now pasted onto my bathroom wall. The needle VU meters are really cool.

Those were the days lol. “Dude, your mixer has 3 band EQ for EACH channel?!”

Now the BEST mixer I ever saw at Radio Shack had the most random shit on it, like buttons for sound effects like:

-Ambulance
-Gun Shot
-“Warp Drive” (I have no idea what the fuck sound that is really)
-Bulldozer
-Applause
-Jet Engine

I almost want one now, just to paste on my wall too lmao.

Oh man, how could I forget the Urei 1620!, dear lord how I coveted these things when I saw them on eBay. I remember one guy telling me about how he found one at a Flea Market for $75. Christ, it’s painful. Now this is a tried and tested DJ mixer.

Enough for basic control but not close to total control like you can get with the 4D. I guess it’s enough if you’re used to a VCI.

I damn near pissed my pants when I saw that Allen & Heath classified Deadmau5 as a “DJ” lmao. Im sure Joel is butt hurt.

Leap of faith

Thanks Everyone! Aside from a little bickering and some strange humor, the general feeling on this thread is for me to get a DJ Mixer – and the favorite seems to be the Xone:4D. So I took a deep breath and ordered one this evening.

Although I’ve never seen, nor heard the 4D, I’m trusting that an A&H product will embody the refined, high quality sound typical of British Hi-Fi. At home, I still use my Alphason Sonata turntable and 100-MCS titanium tonearm (circa 1988) for my vinyl collection.

Can’t wait to get my new toy.

Cheers Big Ears!
(a English friend taught me that. I still have no idea what it means)

An excellent choice, you’re lucky you have the cash on hand to just buy one… I dreamed of one the moment I started DJing and finally got the cash for it a year later. How much did you pay? It is perfection functionally, aesthetically, sound quality wise, and midi wise and every other way, I’m surprised you’ve never heard of it. Wait until you get your hands on those dual filters, in short they are insanely awesome sounding and useful, traktor even emulates them as an effect but using the real deal feels amazing. You can mix using the filters alone. Also just a bit of advice to help your mixing- don’t touch the crossfader, that goes for everyone mixing with 4 decks and in general. I know it is preference but for electronic music using the volume faders will enhance your mixing. I almost wish the crossfader wasn’t there but I do have it assigned to MIDI for panning which I rarely use.

I can get you a .pdf of my overlay that you can get printed and laminated then you gotta cut out the holes plus I’ll give you my traktor pro .tsi file for it.

It’s the best MIDI map I’ve seen anyone make for traktor and once you use it you will feel the immense power of having so much control you never have to touch the keyboard or mouse and it lets you do some crazy FX, looping, and cue juggling tricks. Just pm me your email and I’ll send them to you. That goes for anyone else with a 4D or dual 1Ds (although with dual 1Ds you will have to change the channel on half of it but I think there is a program that automates that from the traktor bible people).

Mate, that was my first mixer!!! With soundlab beltdrive TTs.

I remember trying to use those clunky switches for transforming haha.

I tell people I had a Realistic mixer and they’d say “how realistic is though?”

Then I got this badboy

It had a crossfader!!! I was stoked!!!

I’ve only had mine for a couple weeks (a fair few of us on the forum have 1 now I think) and I absolutely love it. Still unsure whether I prefer it to my old DJM-800 just yet but the sound quality is redonk, plus there’s no cabling lying around. Showed it to my friend who has a Xone 62 last weekend and he loved it, although Traktor confused him somewhat…

I love the filters! I reckon they blow Traktor’s internal ones out of the water

Its a reference to Noddy …you know…Noddy and Big Ears?
Not?..GOOGLE!
