Depends what you wanna play. If you wanna play the guv, footwork, comfort zone, you need to start establishing your name, and meeting industry people to get you opening spots. After that hopefully you impress them and things fall into place.
If you want to play, mainstream clubs like century room, cobra, tryst, lyme, cheval get to work on your top 40 and mash ups.
Generally speaking, its who you know that will get you started and keep the gigs coming. Inject yourself in the local scene and meet some people.
Although dont expect to make a career out of local DJing, the money isnt great, they know you need the opportunity and will probable play for next to nothing.
I’ll have a couple of contacts to get started, but I’m not into doing cheesy top 40 clubs so I’ll check out the other places mentioned, like Comfort Zone and so on.
I’m glad I posted on here, as it really tells a different story to hear it from real DJs who have played there.
and yes the zone is sketchy as hell, and the cops will raid the place once every 6 months or so.
Footwork’s is good for a cleaner, more chillin after hours
I just wish my cab ride downtown wasnt $70 either direction
