The Ultimate FX Thread

Introduction and Goals of “The Ultimate FX Thread”

This thread is going to be dedicated to posting an evolving list of FX parameters. Anyone who has any custom instant press, Super Fader, Super Knob or Jog FX mappings, please post them on here so others can learn how to map FX and eventually create their own. Thanks, lets hope this gets good feedback!

This thread now contains all of the Instant Gratification parameters!
Soon to have Jog FX parameters!

Tutorials on Advanced Modifiers

Route FX Mapping concept.

B is for Beatmesher is keyboard mapping to call up for any effect instantly.

Smart Knob: Set start value for any FX parameter [Tutorial]

This is mapping should be fairly simple and as title says it allows the user to set any particular value at the moment the knob is turned from the far left position (start value). In this tutorial I will use the Deck A Filter as an example of creating a high pass filter knob.

Step one:

Add a modifier and map it to any fader/knob - I’m using M1 here but feel free to map which ever is available/free in your mappings. It should look like this:

Add In > Modifier 1 / type=button / interaction=hold / value=1

Step two:

Go ahead and add the FX parameter you wish to modulate. I’ll be setting the channel A Filter in the mixer.

Add In > Mixer > Filter Adjust / condition M1=0 / type=button / interaction=direct / value=0.500

This command will take care of setting my filter knob back to zero (center) each time I start modulating the knob to the right starting from far left position.

Step three:

So we’ll need another command which actually adjusts the amount of the filter to create a high pass modulation… Inverting this command will turn this knob in to a low pass filter.

Add In > Mixer > Filter Adjust / condition M1=1 / type=fader / interaction=relative / rotary sensitivity=70%

Final Step:

We also want to engage/toggle the effect when the knob is turned from start position. Right?

Add In > Mixer > Filter On / type=button / interaction=hold

Download the mapping file: Smart Knob by stewe.zip (32.2 KB)

If you find anything is confusing you please let me know in the comments. Hope you like and enjoy!
Best,

Relative Modifier Mapping Technique

This mapping technique will allow some more creative fader/knob usage on any MIDI controller. To start with experimenting go ahead and add one modifier which is free in your mapping… We’ll be using modifier #1 in this example

Add In > Modifier 1 > apply the settings same as in the image below

Time to test. Move the fader and notice that modifier value will toggle in between 0 to 7 but, the state will change right at the knob center position which allows for super knob functionality in your mapping.

Short example of this technique combined with an Echo-Freeze effect.

Let’s try do some mappings. We can start by assigning an effect button but in our case we want this button to get activated when the fader passes the center position and remain activated if you continue moving knob to the very end. Once you bring it back to center and slide back to zero value the effect turns off and remains in this state.

Map button commands to the same Fader with Modifier 1:
Add In > FX Unit > Button 1 / M1=0 / type=button / interaction=direct / value=0 / assign FX Unit target
Add In > FX Unit > Button 1 / M1=7 / type=button / interaction=direct / value=1 / assign FX Unit target

This is vary basic setup which helps show what this technique can let you do. I hope you guys like and find some great use cases where this modifier technique shows it’s full potential!

Thanks for making this thread, very useful.

Agreed!

I’m a little confused, on this one:

Doesn’t this line prevent the effect from turning on at all?

Button 3 is doing the trick here. No need for FX unit to be on… You sure to try it out?

Perfect Thread,

You can expect alot of questions  (also from me).

Make same FX unit assignment for all commands.

I usually assign it to an empty deck with gain bumped up quite a bit. The final end of the effect sounds kinda dirty and glitchy though so I don’t usually go there. It’d be awesome if someone tried it and improved it.

Thanks for contribute! I don’t have controller ATM to check your parameters but can imagine how it sounds since I was experimenting on white noise as well. Found that Drive, LOFI and T3 Reverb with right amount of parameters can bring it close to original. I ended to use white noise sample when mixing techno and psy.

Here is the sample of it if somebody want to do the same:White_Noise.zip (99.7 KB)

Here’s a quick and easy mapping I threw together for anyone who, like me, has an old numark mixtrack lying around that they no longer use. It controls any 4 of the macro fx through the mixtrack’s jog wheels.

Can you give the mapping in tekst like on this first page of the thread. I think thats the reason of the thread. It’s easyer than to inport your tsi and analyse it. No hard feelings I hope

To 0Notice and Stewe, can you place the good FX Mappings on the first page?

Thx, Mad

I only posted it in case anyone had a specific need for it, there’s nothing in there with a mapping complicated enough to require listing out the steps. the drama sweep effect is already listed and the rest is just mapping basic fx controls.

sorry if that came off as dismissive, here’s the macro jog effects section of the mapping.

please excuse me for the inconvenience but I’m trying to learn the mapping and it is verry hard.
Thx again

No problem man! I actually mapped a bunch of super knobs on my X1.. will see if I get around to posting them. One of them is ArmyofMe’s sweep n’ drama effect, the other one I can’t remember since I rarely use it anyway lol.

I tried going the white noise sample route some time ago but in the end I just couldn’t get used to having a separate track just for that.
