Thinking about moving to the USA, for the music, this spring

ok so Im not hearing much love for the US (or it’s “scene”). Maybe its because we’re spoiled and jaded…hopefully.

Anyway…here are my 2 cents. As you know the economy is shit right now in the States…and the job market is even worse.

That being said I say if you can get a sponsor and or job come out!

Although it can be pretty expensive…I definitely would suggest California for many reasons:

  • at least 3 major metro areas where culture and music thrive (LA, SF, San Diego)

  • where else can you drive to the snowy mountains down to the hot desert and make it home in time to see a beautiful sunset on the beaches we’re known for

  • the “scene” is what you make of it…you’ve got your typical meat-market sort of super club glam crowd in LA/OC but for the true beat chasers we’ve got great no bullshit crowds and clubs if you’re willing to look…not to mention a GREAT underground & outdoor scene

  • the food…ok whatever…I think this is a major selling point…hell in Orange County alone you can get great (and authentic food) from the cultures of: Mexican, Greek, Middle Eastern, Asian, European…not to mention all the gawd awful (but oh-so-good) down home American cuisine

This state is the birthplace of so many innovations and just plane crazy shit and there is a reason. I wont bore you with a list of them (chances are something you currently know and love had its birthplace in CA…from music to art to…you name it).

Im super proud to be from the states and if you come to CA…you can litteraly just drive to other nearby states…and countries (Oregon, Washington, Texas, Nevada (Vegas), Canada, Mexico, etc). Not to mention the birthplaces of many of the Electronic genres and subgenres are just a short flight away (NY, Detroit, Chicago, etc)

What are your skills man in regards to looking for a job? What is your craft to you? Are you trying to “make it big” or just play out and be happy? What other interests do you have, art, science, culture, etc?

The last selling point is if you come out, we can hang! :smiley: lol

plus if you stack your bread in cali for a few years, move out to the south and you’ll be livin easy. stuff is so cheap down here compared to cali or up north like nyc

i am thinking about the same thing. moving to USA (probably LA as i have where to stay for a few months) for some time. probably next year.

can you guys give us few links where we could check for jobs? i can do loads of stuff. im a graphic designer (worked for the best club in Lithuania with the biggest names on earth), dj, just started my own label. i know loads of stuff about club/label managing, promotion. could be a great help running a club.. etc.. tho the job search website i found doesn’t have a lot to offer. is it really that bad or the websites are crappy?

both. job search websites won’t find you sht 99% of the time. your best bet is to look up clubs in the area you’ll be staying in, call/email them your resume and tell them your situation. most every club has a website nowadays.

Hey man!
have you consider about moving to Brazil?
People really like “gringos” here, that’s how we call the immigrants.
Apart from the violence (that’s everywere not only BR), you can make a really good DJ-Producer carrer here.
In the party’s or club’s lineups we allways have a flag of the DJ’s country, so if you see a lot of foreign flags, people always think that will be a good place to spend some money and because of that the owners can pay more cash for your performance.
I live in São Paulo, the wealthiest brazilian city and people here party every week. We have a club scene that is awesome for electro, minimal and commercial EDM. The rave scene in the cities nearby is always rising and paying more then clubs for psytrance, electro and minimal headliners.
I’m still a bedroom DJ, but I hope to be entering the market soon.
I also have a brazilian friend that is going to live in Sweden, he’s waiting for the marriage papelwork to become a citzen.

I think I should start learning portuguese…

I have quite a fascination with the US too, but I abandoned the thought of moving there. Mostly because of the tough immigration laws.

I visited Berlin this summer I want to move there next year. Given that german is my native language and migration within the EU is rather easy it seems like the perfect choice.

Also, living in the us, you’ll be paid in Dollars.

When the bad guys move all their transactions out of Dollars into Euros, you know a currency is on the way out.

This could be an issue here in Brazil too, I dunno if the club owners pay foreign people in dollars or reais (national currency). But here we have a high speculation around the dollar, if you do the right exchanges you can profit a lot with currency.
