Tips, Tricks, and Help for me?

Ok guys, I got my first ever show tomorrow and im performing for at least 65 people, any advice or tips that you can offer would be appreciated.
I’m extremely nervous.

Thanks guys

What are you nervous about? Just do your thing and relax,it is only one day of your life…

I’m nervous because I have upwards of 7 hours to perform, and I am lacking variety in my mixes. I’m solid with House, Happy Hardcore, and Dub, but I lack variety of music, and I don’t my audience being bored

Have fun! If you’re not having fun, fake it! The more into your set you are, the more into it the crowd will be. Don’t worry about pleasing everyone, just do your best. No matter how it goes it’s just one night of many to come, and you’re going to learn a lot. Take deep breaths if your nervous and DON’T DRINK TOO MUCH!!

pace yourself .. dont be discouraged if people leave the floor from time to time (theyre just getting drinks so they can rage later on)

7 hour set? oh my…I would just play some prog house and tech house…endless buildups into nothingness. :stuck_out_tongue:

3h build up gogogo
i somehow doubt i’d have fun playing for 7h…

[/quote]I’ll tell you how. FOINE ASS. I mean, isn’t what what were all in it for?

That is a long time. I’d end up playing some crazy sh!t just to keep myself entertained.

In a seven hour set don’t be afraid of maybe repeating some stuff if you don’t have lots of music. Most people probably wouldn’t even notice.

I did 11 back to back once, we ended up playing a few tracks twice or more, because they were awesome. We were only playing for 6 people in the end though, so there was no pressure :stuck_out_tongue:

To make it through 7 hours, like mentioned before, you really have to keep yourself happy, otherwise it’s going to suck.

Also, bring coffee/energy drinks, dont drink too much alcohol, and drink water once in a while, so you dont dehydrate too much.

If you are playing 'til sunrise, bring some chill songs nice deep house etc, to spin when you start seeing the sunrise, people will love it. The Tiesto remix of Moonlight Party really worked when I was spinning, they loved it :stuck_out_tongue:

Thank so much guys
You’ve been a great help.
I’m defiantly going to kill this set now

That’s the spirit!

even though i try to never repeat any music, 3 hours is the general rule for repeating music.

Ok guys, so I just got home from my gig…and I destroyed it!
I got 4 more gigs…one at a nice bar in Orlando.
So thanks guys

Nice! Pics? Did you learn anything over the course of the event? Tell your tale to help others.

I learned that as long as you can get the crowd involved, they will enjoy it. At one point during the party, everything was starting to die down, I knew a couple of the kids knew how to jumpstyle/shuffle. So I cut the music and said I challenge you all. I put on a nice long song to shuffle to, got on the floor and preceded to serve everyone…after that everyone was dancing and my next job offer came in because of my “Fun DJ qualities, not just boring mixing”
The picture is my setup about 45 minutes in..all disorganized and junk

Whats a jumpstyle/shuffle???

Cheers
D

I just found a random Youtube video, don’t know if these guys are considered any good or not.

That shuffle stuff is like Michael Jackson on crack.
