What is Mapping?

I bought Traktor Kontrol s4 and I keep reading about Mapping effects.

Can anyone explain nice and easy for my dumb ass lol

Mapping is basically a list of commands that connect your controller with a program, telling it to start a track when you press play, adjust the volume when you move a fader, etc.

This article should come in handy if you want to learn more on the subject.

I posted some links about the basics of mapping here:

If you just purchased your S4 I wouldn’t bother with mapping. Learn the defaults and when you start saying to yourself “I really wish this knob did something different” THEN revisit mapping.

Thanks. I will start looking this over.

My head is certainly spinning. I am not looking to become a DJ. I bought Traktor to get my fill for the music as I am too old to be out partying in the clubs anymore. I am very slowly learning but I guess my biggest confusion comes with the effects.

I see tutorial videos on certain effects that I want to incorporate when I play but when I try to mimic that manipulated sound it sounds terrible. Now part of me wonders if its me or there is something else I need to do. For example take this youtube clip

I have sat and played with Tape Delay for hours and either I dont have the ability to do this or is there something else I need to do? I am 36 and have been in the scene since I was 16. I have to admit I was pretty ignorant into how much work you have to put into this. I really thought it was much easier. However I am not easily defeated and want to learn.

I had to start googling what a Midi is and what mapping is. Its been a little tough because I know nothing but you have to start some where right?

No one knows the answer to this?

Hey Nookers,

I made the Tape Delay video you found on Youtube. If you look in the video description, you can find the link to the forum thread where I have had posted all the mapping parameters for this macro FX knob.

Or click on this link: The Ultimate FX Thread - Page 10

If you still find this to be a mapping trouble for you, I can build a TSI version of that effect and share with you! Let me know
