traktor-ableton or traktor- maschine sync slip

There are many wonderful posts on this site about syncing both Traktor and Ableton, or Traktor and Maschine (essentially the same fundamentals).

However, I have gone back to two laptops so that I can work as a duo with my friend, and we are finding that over time, the sync starts to drop out.

  1. Is it better to have Traktor as the master or the other programs as master?
  2. If Traktor is the master, is it better just to set a Master BPM or to use the auto mode?
  3. Has anyone tried using an external MIDI clock and sending it to two units to sync them?
  4. If you do notice that ableton or maschine is starting to loose sync with Traktor, what is the best technique to get the slave back into sync?
