I’ve spent many hours toiling over Trakor and gridmappings. Now that I am amost done, I wanted to find any way to sync over to either itunes or at least tagging the mp3.
I was almost thinking that the comments field might be best since I would be able to capture unrounded data, but then the problem is if there is a way to do that, to force it to the beginning of the field so it’s sortable.
I’ve noticed that the BPM programs like cadence is actually way off on about 1/4 of my library, and another 1/4 off marginally. But it would be nice to keep this all in sync.
Well as of this point I have been unable to get Traktor to write BPM back to the files. I had an original BPM scan done and tagged by Cadence Pro and Mixmeister BPM Analyzer before that, and unless I manually tag the file with the updated BPM, it sits with it’s original value.
To get iTunes to read your Traktor BPMs you need to do this:
Select the tracks in iTunes > right/Ctrl Click > Consolidate Files > Cancel
This forces iTunes to update the tags.
Is it sitting with that original BPM in Traktor or iTunes? If Traktor make sure the tracks aren’t locked if you want to change the BPM, then you can right click and select detect BPM. I don’t think you want to select analyze because if you’ve manually beat gridded tracks that will screw some of them up.
If they’re sitting in iTunes and not changing BPM value do what Karlos said.
Because itunes is a muisc player for the masses and Traktor is Professional DJ software. So if you are a professional then use professional tools. Its like saying I own a restaurant and I am a professional Chef but I am going to go to Home Depot and buy an every day refrigerator and stove to cook on. In your line of thinking, you might as well hook up 2 ipods to to DJ with.
If you are not here to help, please leave your unconstructive input to yourself.
he is not using itunes to perform. It is simply a tool to help catagorise & sort ones extensive Music collection to better navigate around there library when searching for tracks.
To the OP. Karlos & Jojo have summed up what you need to do.
I was a bit reluctent with itunes to begin with, But with following a few other threads in regards to sorting music in itunes. those 2 have been a great help.
I have to strongly disagree.
iTunes is a very powerful music organiser. So what if its bloatware and is trying to sell you the whole Series of The Office. Just ignore that stuff.
Nothing is as good at organising music.
Until the Traktor Browser is vastly improved i will continue to use iTunes and Traktor (i dont like having all my eggs in one basket).
I also like to use iTunes to make backup cds from playlists exported as M3U files from Traktor.
I also think your iPod statement is a little bit off.
dj matt blaze. As I will echo what others said, this is for music management, for which Traktor is very poor with. Also, I manage a household of ipods and iphones, all with different tastes and niches, and itunes serves that purposes for music management.
This has nothing to do at all with DJing, other than one of the best DJing tools out there, Traktor, is a superior tool for BPM detection, especially when beatgridding your catalog, and I would like to carry that data over to iTunes.
To the Karlos solution, for some reason that still does not work for me. I’ve even gone to the step of allowing iTunes to consolidate a couple files (instead of hitting cancel), and making sure id3 tags were v.2.4.
Make sure that the track is unloaded from a Traktor Deck.
I just imported a new track to iTunes. Then imported into the Traktor Collection and analysed it.
I closed itunes and refreshed the iTunes node but the BPM did not show in itunes.
I then loaded a different track and then clicked on the track in itunes and the BPM showed.
If you close itunes and then reopen it may also read the BPM tag and show it.
Traktor writes and updates the tag when the track is unloaded.
Well a combination of MixMeister Analyzer and Cadence Pro wrote the BPM values to the tags/iTunes, and there is some wildly differences in real versus automated. Some are not as simple as /2 or *2 either. But the fact that I am so close to very accurate BPM values in all my tagged files in Traktor, it would be a shame that I could not export those to the mp3 and subsequently iTunes.
I will have a test tonight to see if I can be of any assistence to you. it is not something I have paid particular attention to. I just assumed it was corresponding between traktor & itunes.
I will probly download & try on a fresh track for you, any particular ones you are having a problem with and want me to try?
edit: I do analyse mine in Mixed in key 4, and have the option selected to round to the nearest 1, eg 124.87 = 125. hence why I probly havn’t noticed.
I will try without mixed in key for this test though.
But I trust karlos so im not sure it will be of too much help.
