I am looking for some advice. I am wanting to expand in to a new setup, mainly for at home right now. I was thinking about going the external mixer route with an X1 and 2 F1’s (when it is released). Should I go with a 2 channel mixer over a 4 channel (it seems more beneficial to go with a 4 channel) I will be using traktor, so I am unsure as weather or not to go with a traktor certified mixer like the dennon dn-x1600, or pioneer DJM T1, or alternatively go with an Xone 42. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated. I am quite new to the mixer world, I have been doing some research for a few weeks now and am unsure how to go about picking one.
Also I did think about going the S4 route, cause this is mainly for a at home setup and it works awesome with traktor. But i am not a huge fan of jogs wheels, I find I never use them at all.
Are you going to use turntables? If not then you don’t need scratch or an NI sound card at all. Regular Traktor Pro 2 and any sound card will work. If you want to use turntables and control vinyl then you’ll need either a scratch certified mixer or an NI Audio 4, 6, 8 or 10. The Audio 4 would let you use two turntables connected to your mixer, but that’s it. If you want to mix externally and use all four channels on the mixer then you’l need at least an Audio 8. the 10 is needed if you want to use all four channels and the loop recorder.
I think its good to have four channels with traktor in ext mixer just to have the option of a preview channel (to listen to tracks b4 throwing them in a deck) and a sample deck channel.
Personally if i was going to get a traktor certified mixer i’d get the djm900. The FX are decent and it’s the mixer you’re most likely to find when you play out.
I think the Denon X1600 is lovely mixer too. Great touch and good FX
I think with the new changes to the Traktor product line up you won’t be able to buy Traktor Scratch Pro 2 without buying a NI Audio Interface (A10 or A6). This means that you would have to shell out for the interface and the mixer.
Real talk the 850 to 2000 DJM line up effects trumps any thing the best knob twiddler in traktor could ever produce. I would not even bring up A&H effects.
Now to the OP
I suggest you look into the DJM 850-2000 lineup as they will better suit you or any DJ in the long run being pro standard midi mappable, found in almost every club and offering various paths to upgrade they are by far the best traktor certified mixers.
Wow I missed that I always thought it was but either way I concur I never was a never a pioneer fan I mean loved using them but that DJM 2000 raped my mind and owned me
I feel like Pioneer effects are too heavy handed. When I hear a DJ playing a Pioneer mixer, I often think, gee, this DJ is playing on a Pioneer mixer. They are nice effects if you don’t overdo them but I guess they’re so easy to use that the temptation is to overdo the hell out of them. Traktor effects have a similar problem but there’s a lot more options for changing their parameters. And A+H effects are so subtle you think they’re just part of the song. That can be a problem too when you want an easy one-step echo out or whatever – Traktor really shines for something like that. Pioneer to me just screams “hey look at me, I’m playing on Pioneer!!” That’s my main problem with the RMX-100, even though I really enjoyed playing with it.
I’m guessing the 2000 gives you a lot more control over the effects so you can fine tune them though.
I can agree with you there especially about the RMX 1000 solid piece of kit but really for that price you could purchase a whole setup. I don’t really see the use for it even from the Pro’s who the use the DJM 2000 it just strikes me as be that piece of gear you have that says look I’m flushed with cash and ITS PIONEER!!! As a matter of fact all their top end gear have that effect on people. I played a gig with the out of town DJ he requested a DJM 2000 so the club upgraded to it. I’m in the booth looking at this guy mixing on it and he does not use any off the advanced features it was like he requested it so he could say he’s a pro.
