Traktor effects: Your favorite techniques and combos?

Hey everyone,

Im still relatively new to mixing and Traktor (just the past couple of months at home but now I am starting to play bars and house parties) and I am starting to mess with effects more and more. While I am starting to find my own Fx preferences, I was curious as to how others use them. What are your favorite combinations for chained, your favorite settings for advanced, etc, and how do you use them?

Also any suggestions?

Thanks

-Matt

I’m getting some deja vu on this thread mate, you might kick things back off by adding to a previous thread

over the last few weeks, i spent some time googling for stuff like this. i came up with the following list of what people mentioned as their “favorite” or “go-to” setting. unfortunately, i did not spend the time recording the name / email of every user, so w/e, credit goes to teh internetz…

edit: the +1 / +2 were just notations i gave when i 1) saw it more than once on a site, or 2) used it myself and liked it. i have not experimented with all these just yet.
edit2: it should be relatively clear that you could really just put any effects together and, with some hard work and timing, make them all sound well together.

iceverb, mullholland, peak filter +1

delay, gater, beatmasher

delay, beatslicer, beatmasher

beatmasher, beatslicer, iceverb

delay, gater (+1)

delay, flanger, reverb

gater, ring modfulator, iceverb

transform, reverb, delay (vocal)

beatslicer, beatmasher, gater

gater, reverb, transpose

gater, format filter, reverb

beatmasher, delay, reverse grain

gater, reverb, formant

beatmasher2, filter 92 lfo, reverb

Nice post. I think there is also a front page post on the DJTT blog where Ean Golden goes through his Top 4.

i cant seem to find that…

i use this when there is no track on that deck:
gater at 1/8 or shorter/ i variate between that range to give a scratch sound
with mullholled (sp?) at full
and the lo-fi at 0, but you can play with that if you like

and when a deck is playing:
i copy the deck to the other side and do the same as before, but i leave the gater at 1/8 and do a sweep with the lofi that lasts 4, 8 or 16 beats

thanks

You are the man! Thank you!

Would be perfect if we could hear a 30 sec sample/video of each effect combo

Who are able to do that?
Let’s collaborate on this?

We can use the screentoaster (www.screentoaster.com) to record our screen while we turn the FX knobs as some of the build ups will be in a complex order of fx activation.
Seeing the hardware is not necessary, just a video with the fx and the audio produced would be enough

That seems like it would be rather difficult considering the amount of possible variations of each chained effect against the other chained effects. maybe if you just chose the default setting of each effect, but that may not give a true representation of what that effect could do.

im sure someone properly schooled in what the effect actually does to the sound wave could speak to the “correct” adjustment of each effect (if there is such a thing… perhaps “best” or “desired” level of each effect).

Matt, you already asked me this question like a billion times. haha jk.

Iceverb, t3Delay, and Reverb set to super knob fader.

I like the delay plus filter combo a lot. It creates a rather cool mini-climax effect.

I find I use the delay allll the time when mixing tracks. I like to use it with vocals to trigure them in a mix or when im mixing vocals out of a song and want it to sound like its kind of “fading away”.

Especially when laying down vocal samples, the T3 effects come in handy.

(And sorry about creating another thread about same topic, couldn’t find this one using the search function)

thanks this info was useful 2 me..(u guys rock)

Delay T3 and Iceverb create a nice “misty” outro for a transition, and I really enjoy combining the beatslicer with a variety of effects for some on the fly remixes. I rarely ever hear about the beatslicer being used either, it’s a particularly fun tool to play with if you know what to sample with it.

Just a quick question… what’s the difference between Delay and Delay T3 and Reverb and Reverb T3? Sorry if this is a stupid question at all…

ive been meaning to try them all to find that out. im lazy.
