Traktor Pro and Live on Mac

Traktor Pro and Live on Mac

Not sure if this has been covered for mac…the whole routing Traktor into Live thing but I found a good tool for Mac callled “Jack”. It uses virtual audiop cables and is pretty easy to use, low latency and cpu load meter.

I have just been playing round and got each of the 4 decks in Traktor to run through individual channels in Live. I had seen Ean’s write up on it but wasn’t sure if it was being done on mac…

thanks for the info, ill check it out.

i’ve been experimenting with the same thing, but using Soundflower on my my macbook.
seems pretty straight forward and easy. but i havent tried anything crazy like syncing a track in traktor and one in ableton :S

It’s super easy to sync the tempo for ableton to follow traktor if thats what you mean. Just set the Traktor Virtual Midi Output to active, tick send midi clock. Skip to Live Preferences, Midi Sync, Turn On Traktor Virtual Output options as Input. Go to the main window, top left you should see a flashing square next to the EXT, this means Live is receiving an external midi signal, to enable it highlight EXT. Play with the tempo in Traktor and it should translate to Live.

We metioned this on the blog a while back, Read this artcle: Smart Mixing Traktor into Ableton - 4 Mac - DJ TechTools

Hi,

I downloaded Soundflower too but havent been able to configure it properly with Pro / Ableton.

Any ideas on how to achieve routing? I have an Audio8 soundcard..

Thx

jgcamil - did you follow the tutorial link i gave in my last post ?

How would you do this if you were using Traktor Scratch Pro instead of Traktor 3 controlled by MIDI? I believe Traktor Scratch requires audio output be routed back into the mixer (and therefore the club) in order to work properly, but I’m not sure. Is there a way for us Traktor Scratch users to harness the same synchronization power with Traktor+Ableton?

You couldnt do this with vinyl timecode because you would be using the jackdmp driver instead of the audio8 drivers - so the “scratch” part of traktor scratch wouldnt function.

Complain to NI about having to have “authorised” soundcards - thats a good start.

Another alternative is to have ms pinky convert the vinyl timecode into a midi stream which is then used by Traktor Pro :\ Not exactly the most friendly setup in the world, but it is possible.

seems i didnt… ill give it a read!
One thing… Jack OSX page it does not support 10.5.6.. :disappointed: guess Ill have to wait until they release the support version.

Hey Bentosan,

Quick one… if I only want to route the MASTER of Tpro into Ableton, instead of the 4 channels using internal mixer.. possible?
I was thinking on choosing internal mixer, output of traktor master into jack and the rest remains the same…

Thoughts?

Yup, what you just said will work - though personally i dont see why anyone would want to do such a thing as then you remove the possibility of applying effects in Ableton to only one of your decks. Also you wont be able to use a smartmixer. The only advantage to this approach is that you can use the EQ’s inside of Traktor Pro.

Ahh, so let me see if I understand correctly:

  • Doing this will only let me apply the fx to ONE deck and not the master output.
  • I will be able to use my Traktor fx (desired)

Any ideas on how to preserve my internal eqs while routing the MASTER into ableton so I can use the compressors?

Also: with JackOSX, do you think is possible to route Traktor into Izotope Ozone to get similar compressor results in Live? A big question I have on this idea is that Izotope works in 64bits, and this is not compatible with the Audio 8Dj… am I correct?

anuary 16, 2009 - Released updated version 0.80, which updates JackRouter to allow it to be selected as the default system audio device again, addressing an issue introduced by OS X 10.5.6. It also updates JackPilot to ensure that available sample rates for each device are now retrieved more reliably. Finally, it updates the Jackdmp server to the latest SVN version (1.91).

Sure it does not work?

nemo can be unforgiving, jgcamil.

No if you do what you were saying when you apply an effect it will put it on the master mix.

If you route the individual decks into Ableton then you can apply effects onto individual decks - if you can them mix the audio into a single channel (the master channel) which you will then put your mastering VST effects on.

You cannot EQ and be in external mode at the same time - they took this out of traktor pro as it was confusing some users. Id sugest +1ing on this feature request thead on the traktor forum - http://www.nativeinstruments.de/forum_de/showthread.php?t=73085
Instead you will have to use Abletons EQ’s if you want to use external mode and route the decks out individually.

If you route the decks out individually you can then mix them into a single channel which you can apply your mastering vst’s too the master channel.

Izotope is a VST plugin, so you can run that on your master channel inside Ableton live if you wish.

Seriously, if you are going though the effort of routing your audio into Ableton i would highly advise using external mode to route the decks onto indivual Ableton channels. This will allow you alot more freedom of creativity than just piping only the master channel into Ableton.

It seems to work, just not very well. The temp fluctuates a lot in Ableton. Makes my beats sound drunk.

Any other solutions? I heard syncing with some kind of external master clock thingamajiggy works better. Not sure though.

Midi clock sucks, you need to sync the two by hand.
