Hey all, hope you can help this is freaking me out.
Just bought myself a new laptop to replace my aging beast which had been running Traktor no problem but kept blue screening…long story anyway.
Installed Traktor pro (the latest build) under Windows XP Professional SP3. Running a modified VCI 100 (firmware update thanks to DJ Techtools) and Audio Kontrol 1.
Everything works fine but randomly Traktor will freeze up in mid song leaving me with a nice loud buzz. THen only a complete restart will close the software and allow me to reopen (trying to end the process tree does not work). This can happen at any time. I have already reinstalled windows and it is completely clean, I am using this only for Traktor!!
Any ideas,I have a gig tomorrow and am terrified that this will happen in mid mix.
I have the same issue every once in a while and admittedly have pretty much given up on it (playing with someone else, we just switch over quickly, which is crap, yes). I’ll log a support ticket on the weekend as well but I don’t expect wonders after having read the replies to the various support tickets other people have submitted (aka, they are a slap in the face of anyone being more than just a clueless button-pusher).
Seriously, and im not even joking 1% i have pushed this issue till im blue in the face.
That thread over at NI is a total mess. Some saying they have resolved it others not.
Some have joy with the Midi Out being Disabled some not.
Is this Definitely caused buy Traktor ???
I cant keep track of the actual issue and ive had little joy with any of the tickets.
I have an Inbox full of PMs from people ive tried to help.
I cant remember anyone being accused of being a “clueless button pusher” or anything like that so i think that may be a bit unfair but…
I May Be Shooting Myself In The Foot Here But:
if anyone wishes to post a good, concise desrciption about this issue HERE i will again take it to NI Support.
That is, if it is ok with Moderators. This is their Forum and they know i wont do this without their consent.
If i can help then im MORE than pleased to cus i love this Forum but if this turns into some Rant about NI ill just put my fingers in my ears cus i dont come here for that. I get enough of that over there (wah wah wah)..!
So up to you guys… Whats the problem ? What happens ? When does it happen ? What are you doing when it happens ? Is it just Win or is it on Mac ? Which Versions of Traktor are affected ?
Switching out USB cables doesn’t do anything, I’ve tried more than 5 different cables; with ferrites, without, cheap ones, expensive ones.
Haven’t noticed any difference between having the VCI plugged in before or after.
Karlos, I’ll post something up once I get time, but it’s definitely being caused by Traktor. It was never an issue on the second version of Tpro, I played out with no problems from the weekend after the patches release to the installation of the one after that (sorry I can’t remember exact patch numbers, I’m at work atm).
The problems seemed to coincide with the inclusion of midi hot swapping into Tpro.
Cool. Jack that would be great. As much info as poss but in a way that a Mac boy like me can understand. hah
Ill try look back and see in which Traktor update the problems started.
Sorry for the rolleyes, but it’s just like getting the tech support email for this issue from NI.
I have followed all the optimisation instructions and none of it makes not a jot of difference, my machine has never had a problem having bt/wifi enabled whilst playing in all the years of djing on it.
I agree that ranting doesn’t help, and please don’t put your fingers in your ears, they’re not nearly as cool as headphones What I meant was simply that the support staff points out the obvious (system services, latency etc) instead of tackling the actual issue (and the immense amount of forum posts about that in various forums) and people are slowly getting upset with that kind of first level support. I’ve seen over at NI also how much you’ve been pushing for this (and I’m very grateful for that - it must be immensely annoying), I just think nobody can really look what’s going on inside, except NI.
So, I will see that I can get an “easy” reproducer for the ticket (for me it’s always when playing with the FX knobs but I can see that it needs to be more concise), see if midi out off helps or not, same for USB cable and power adapter, then log it. Do you know if they have a VCI100 FW1.3 on site?
i guess the quick fix would be to find a way to downgrade the latest version that doesn’t freeze? not sure if it’s possible but since i’m not sure that NI will release an update to fix this issue before your gig, it may be your best bet?
@Krome, no worries mate. If you get a new Ticket for this issue i will push it immediatly and ill make sure that i get a proper (maybe not a good) answer.
We are way beyond the first steps of Support which DvlsAdvct rightly says have to be gone thru.
As well as someone posting up the issue and the answers to what i said in my last post tell me what Support have given as answers that you know are not relevant so i can say “dont tell me to do this or that” .
I dont know if they have a VCI in the dev team but i have a VCI (im mac) but i have a pc and a pc laptop (i dont use them to dj) but i can set it up so i will try to reproduce anything you can post here . If you can post up anything that makes the issue happen ill try and do it… That way i can add some clout to my Support email.
Windows XP SP3, Dell 9400 (Core 2 Duo 2ghz, 2gb RAM), Audio Kontrol 1, VCI 100 SE (v1.3), latest version of Tpro, Ean’s 2.2 tsi (though it has been an issue no matter what tsi I use)
It’s difficult to reproduce reliably but seems to be related to using jogwheels/fx, though I have had it occur just mixing normally. If I have midi out enabled then at some point it WILL occur. The only way to resume playback is to disconnect the VCI at which point it starts playing again.
Appears to be just an issue on Windows, and has been an issue ever since midi hot swapping was included and all patches since.
Disabling midi out fixes it 100%, nothing else affects it.
Autonic’s posts on the thread on the Tpro board are worth reading; he appears to have investigated the problem more than anyone else has had the inclination to, ie; actually buying a PSU to test.
Im all over this like a rash.
Im waiting for replies and as its Friday im looking at Monday for this as im going via a different route than just Support so peeps will be out for the weekend
since our last email conversation, we got a handful of customers who reported
a similar issue. If disabling the Midi Out of the VCI100 does help to solve
the issue, the issue is probably related to an USB port which does not offer
enough power.
Please check the Powersaving option of the USB ports
In your device manager (control panel/ System/ Hardware), right+click each
“USB Root Hub”, choose “properties”/ Powermanagement" and untick the “allow
the computer to turn off this device to save power” option.
Also it may help to connect the VCI100 to a power adapter (this was reported
by another customer).
Best regards.

Nnngh. That’s exactly what they suggested last time before they’d had other people contact them about it.
Karlos, can you point them in the direction of the thread where Autonic shows that a PSU makes no difference?
