Traktor Pro Issues Caused by Processor?

Hi there,

I’m trying to rack my brain as to why my laptop is simply not able to handle Traktor Pro.

Could it be my processor? I’m running an Intel 1.6Ghz Dual Core with 2Gb Ram.

Would upgrading my processor help with the crashing/issues I’m experiencing with Traktor Pro?

Thanks,

u can launch it but it lags? or it crahses after a while?
what operating system you are using?
tell us a bit more of your system as it could be anything?
waiting for your reply

Mire info will help. FYI don’t forget trying to optimize recommendations from native instruments

Yeah your going to have to be more descriptive about the symtoms you are seeing, then we might have some chance of helping you.

Alrighty…

The OS is Windows 7 beta - which is a solid build but (I’ll admit) may have something to do with it. I use a VCI-100 and a NI digital DJ 8 for a soundcard. I’ve got all of the settings on the computer shut down to minimal use (i.e. no areo, primary services accessing the CPU, etc…)

Today, while practicing in the middle of a set, the system crashed in the middle of scrolling through the tracks looking for the next song to play. It made this freakish digitized sound for the longest time. I had to unplug the soundcard just to stop it since Traktor wasn’t responding. It’s a real crap shoot. Sometimes, it works real smooth, but other times, it will freeze for no reason or the play button won’t work in the GUI or on the controller. Good thing these were all during practice and not during a live gig.

I’m just trying to figure something out 'cause the system just seems too buggy and I’m freaked out to go gig with it live.

Any ideas?

Not much help i can offer other than to say that your going to have to wait for Traktor 1.03 which will hopefully fix these bugs - in the meantime if you have a gig use Traktor 3.

yeah, the company says the update is coming “in a couple weeks” but I’ve got a major gig on Feb 7th… argh! Now I gotta learn a whole new GUI?! Crappity crap crap!

I will diffinetyly stop using Windows 7 Beta, keyword “Beta” Is there a way you can downgrade to XP? That should cut half of your problems. Traktor Pro has its bugs but one way I have figured out to lower them down is thru the following:

-Turn off the key function, it somehow screws with your pitch percentages
-Restart before the start of the gig, it gets rid of the clipping
-Beatgrid and Beatgrid
-Follow the Native Instruments tips for optimal performance.

Yeah luv2xra makes a good point - you should try scaling back your operating system and you might be able to get rid of your problems

Windows 7 is not yet officially supported by NI - so that could potentially be one of your problems.

as far as i’m concerned anyone using a beta operating system has no leg to stand on complaining about unstable software.

well what i recomment you should do is first is resize your partition and install xp pro performance edition or a lite version.
Install only the basics to run the OS, such as video card driver. i would suggest not installing the sound driver as it can cause sometimes some problems.
then disable all unnecessary services u can have a look at this page.

http://www.blackviper.com/WinXP/servicecfg.htm

and then configure your pc following this guide.

http://www.audioforums.com/windows-xp-optimization.php

install traktor and see how u go with this.

so you should one partition with 7 if u wish to keep it and one with xp pro for your traktor only.

hope this helps let us know how u went.
glad i could help out

+1 on what JD62 said 2 patitions, 1st partition XP Pro minimal software install keep it audio related, 2nd partition Win7 Beta

Goodluck

mmkay, I went and downgraded to Windows XP. Now I’m experiencing MORE problems. Traktor Pro will play one or two songs and will studder and even crash/freeze/make a crazy loud BUZZZZZ sound! I’ve got all the proper drivers…

I’ve got all the USB power management settings off, all the network drivers off, so what else can I do to fix this now?? And to top things off, there’s popping and cracking - something I never had with Windows 7… AGHH!!!

hmm that seems to be very strange.
could u test your memory with memory test. the only think i can think of at this point is either memories issues.
here is the link for memory testing soft

let us know how it went.
hope we can fix your issue

Well, everything checks out. The RAM is good… =/

Run DPC latency checker and give us a print screen of the results.

at this point it could only be a latency issue.
dr bento will be able to help u much more than me on this issue

I’m currently changing some settings but here’s what I get in latency:

Those big spikes is probably whats causing your issue, you need to work out which driver is doing the damage.

Go into your Device manager and shut down all non essential drivers like wireless network adapter, wired network adapter, SD cardslots, inbuilt camrea one at a time. Basicly try closing anything thats not going to kill your computer.

There may be one or more drivers that are causing these issues, its really a matter of trial and error.

If its not a driver thats causing the problem it will be a windows service that you will have to close down using start->Run->Services.msc - be really careful editing anything in there though, google anything that you change the state of and be sure that you know what your doing. Just closing everything is a really bad idea :stuck_out_tongue:

Anyway, once you have worked out which drivers are causing the problems you can look for alternative drivers for those devices - or if its non essential to music just leave these turned off.

Just an update on my progress… I’m going to do a fresh install (formatting the hardrive included) of XP and go from there. I did get some favorable performance after I went in and did some serious system tweaking. I’ll let y’all know how it goes… Thanks Bento for the help… =)
