Traktor S4 glitches, skips and drop outs!

Traktor S4 glitches, skips and drop outs!

Hello there, I’m a new member here and I decided to register so that maybe someone would be able to help me out with this:

I recently purchased a Traktor S4 and last gig was a complete mess, I was terribly embarrased as the audio kept on freezing and crackling and it was pretty noticeable.

These are my computer specs:

  • Intel Core i3 @ 2.40 Ghz
  • 2 GB RAM
  • Windows 7 Home SP1 64 bits

I’m currently running Traktor 2.5, S4 driver version 3.0.3.

I’ve seen that many people is experiencing the same issue with this device, I’ve been searching for a solution but nothing seems to help; I have disabled wi-fi, bluetooth, defrag’ed my HDD, I went through every single step the “troubleshoot guide” says and still my Traktor keeps on freezing and crackling!

My main concern is that I have a gig soon and I don’t want to go through the same situation again, it was very embarrasing the las time. Please, if anybody has a solution for this let me know!

Thank you,

Renzo.

Have you tried adjusting the latency settings?

scamo

Yes scamo, I’ve adjusted the latency and sample rate to every possible option and still nothing, I have recalibrated all knobs, crossfaders, jogwheels, etc. Still audio pops and crackles, it’s driving me nuts!

I read that topic before, I just wish I didn’t have to create a partition but I guess it would be a much better option than buying a Mac!
Now, what programs did you use to create the partition and how many GBs did you assign to the Traktor partition? Would I have to transfer all my music to the new partition?

Virus software turned off? Any programs running in the background, which may do a lot of hard drive access like an optimization program? The battery/ power saving stuff turned off too?

scamo

WLAN most often is the killer if I experience drop-outs with my S4. Apart from that I would make sure computer’s focus is on programs running in the background. You are able to adjust this in your computer’s settings. It’s very important to reach lower latencies/ less crackles at the same latency.

Yes, it’s all been turned off and disabled from the devices manager. Seriously I’m thinking that the only way out of this would be getting a Mac! :disappointed:

You already had a look at this:

Quite helpful as well: Optimize Your Windows PC for DJing & Music Production w/ DJ Endoby | Dubspot

Send me your laptop and $200 and I’ll get it working. Cheaper than a Mac by some stretch.

I would SO do it Smitten! I am THAT desperate but I’m outside of the US, sending you my laptop woud be a lot of hassle! :disappointed:

I tried the .bat file to optimize my computer, I manually disabled wifi from the Device Manager, I also ended every process that I didn’t need and… guess what? it didn’t help!

I’m freaking out! I could understand if my laptop was under the minimun requirements, but it is not. I guess the best option for me would be to create a new partition for Traktor only, problem is that I don’t have a copy of Win7 to install on that partition, I’m screwed!

But, to be honest, you’re not far away from the minimum requirements.
Keeping in mind that official system requirements often tend to be quite optimistic (which also promises to sell some more copies of the software for sure), it is not that surprising that you might have issues. Probably the new Remix Decks and so on demanding even a bit more cpu power than Traktor needed in older versions just gave your system the death blow.
My laptop is way more performant than yours (2,7Ghz i5, 4GB Ram) and also experiences some crackles from time to time (when running 4 decks with effects and recorder on while using the jogwheel to be honest).
To me it seems like you’ll need to buy a better system…

Well whenever I use the software only, without the S4, it doesn’t crakle or anything, everything goes smoothly but when I plug in the S4 and use it, that’s when the problems come, it crackles, freezes and all kind of audio issues happen!

That seems to be common. One of my friends experienced the same.

I’ll try restoring my laptop to its original settings with the recovery discs and I’ll just install the Traktor 2.5 and try it out without any of the programs that I currently have installed… I’ll let you know if it works…

Hi,

So what happened in the Final Run ? I tryed mostly everything as you did, but in my case I’am a Traktor Kontrol S2 user. My audio doesn’t crackle or makes weird pops, instead my Audio Freezes and my complet work stops. So I need to turn Off and back On the machine to be able to continu to work with it. I tryed many things, such as installing the latest drivers, USB Buffer changing, Process buffer and Sample Rate. Nothing seems to work out. I so desperated, I contacted NI and they told me to try different things and mostly make a new partition so It will only Use the Traktor S2 and give it the power it needs. I find this completely ridiculus paying for something 650 to 1000 $ and not being able to play with it as it should. Is realy GAY (no offense to GAY people) :rage: :rage: :rage: But anyway I’ll probably try this Partition thing, and if it doesn’t work out, then Fuck off, I’ll buy a MacBook Pro.

My Computer Setup:

AMD Phenom II x6 T1090 3.2 Ghz
8 GB or RAM
Geforce GTX560 1GB dedicated Graphic Card
USB Root Ports sleep mode turned Off

BTW this is a Desktop and not Laptop, only to tell you on any Windows machine you’ll have the same fucking problem.

I’ll hope it turned out well for you, leave a message to let me know what you did and if the reinstalling process worked fine for you

Hey dude, well I did the recovery thing yesterday and then transferred my music files back to my laptop and it still has the same issues… :disappointed:

Let me know how it goes with the partition… That is my last resort now!

Thanks for the Quick answer, you might maybe like to read the thread here S4 ruined my gig last night. Help. - Page 3 some guy has an issu similar to yours. I will try the partition thing later, it’s like 5:03 in the morning here, trying to fix this shit --', I feel so much riped Off. So I keep you updated, by the way call me Ad.

I had the same problem with my Vaio .. i just started uninstalling all devices (blue tooth, webcam etc) and I upgraded my video drivers, the load barely moves past 1/4 .

@NewManSoon
Which Vaio do you have? Some months ago I tried to upgrade my video drivers as well but I wasn’t able to find where. At the Radeon homepage it was a mess to find anything about a new driver (maybe there just wasn’t one, I couldn’t make head or tail of it.).
