Traktor S4 or Allen & Heath Xone: 42 + Audio 6 soundcard?

Traktor S4 or Allen & Heath Xone: 42 + Audio 6 soundcard?

I finally got my job at a local apple store and already planning to fry my first monthly pay (still live @ my parents) on a new mixer, since my current Xone: 22 does not cut it for the way of performing I want to do.

However, I’m not sure what kind of mixer I wanna save for…I had my eyes on getting a Xone: 42 with a new soundcard (audio 6 or 8 if i manage to find one) but after playing around with my friends new S4, I seriously got tempted when i realized it would spare me from buying a new soundcard and software (since the upgrade to Traktor 2 will apparently not be free), although since I already own 2 Kontrol X1:s, it would feel a bit “too traktory” if I go for the S4 :stuck_out_tongue:

I am however concerned over the sound difference from the two since iv’e been playing with my Xone: 22 and the fact i read somewhere that it’s not a suitable mixer if you are playing techno / electro

So please, guide me to a good deal so I have something to look forward to

mixers are mixers, they aren’t genre specific.

only time a mixer can be style specific would be for scratch dj’s… that would mostly come down to if the crossfader is good for scratching or not.

Get your hands on a used xone92. baby’s built like a tank!

check the corners and faders, if they’re not roughed up you know the dude took good care of his gear.

What about running an xone 92 along side a vci-300?

sell the x1, use thes4 with the other x1…to traktor whateva…plus the s4 will get dvs with T2!

I would suggest the Denon DN-X1600. I bought one about a week ago and I am absolutly in love with it. It has an awesome internal sound card, full midi mappability, and it’s built like a rock. last I checked its going for 800 on ebay (btw I also run 2 x1’s and it works perfectly)

I vote S4, I really love mine. It’s honestly the most fun I have had DJing since CDJ 1000’s were invented. I have owned the vci-100 & the vci-300 also but the S4 has them beat.

Depends on if you really need jogwheels, but I guess not, because you’re using two X1’s. I’d say pick up a Xone:62 or 92: 4-band EQ is a breeze when you’re playing with more than two decks. You can be much more specific with which frequency ranges you want in or out of your mix.

4 band eq… drool, drool

I’m totally addicted to it (and the filters) I even bring my xone92 to clubs that don’t have one so I can rock out on it. Others just don’t do it for me anymore.

S4 hands down, I sold my Pioneer cdj800’s and Djm800, my Denon DNHS-5500 and Traktor scratch pro with the audio8 all about a month after getting my NI S4 and I havent looked back, its the best purchase Ive ever made gear wise and I’ve been mixing for 5 years and had 4 sets of gear.

4 sets in 5 years!
That’s a fast turnover. Guess u weren’t too lucky with the purchases up untill now?

If we put it this way: I’m not a club DJ per say but I still want to have access to sample decks and possibly a third track: Will the audio 6 be more suitable or should I get the audio 10 straight away?

Audio 6 will do it.

Could it be possible to have traktor running through an auio 6 while having ableton running on my audio 2 on the same computer (with a usb hub) and on the same mixer? In that way i can run Griid in ableton on my iPad

+1 for the 1600!
In addition to what Gary mentioned, I would also add that the DN-X1600 is Traktor Certified

Word of warning, if you decide to buy a Denon DN-X1600, stay away from EBAY

Warning to all valued consumers:
The warranty on DENON DJ products is NOT VALID if the products have been purchased from an UNAUTHORIZED dealer/online retailer(such as Ebay)…”

I had the xone 42 and a M-Audio 610 the sound card was great but the mix on the xone was too warm with my Bowers and Wilkins speakers, it sounded too round. So I sold that and got and Ecler Evo 5 for £700… the sound is controlled and clean which is nice… I think the moral of my post is go for the S4 or a mixer with sound card incorporated
