Traktor Scratch Poor (a.k.a. Ghetto Timecode Control)

Go for them!! I am buying a couple as soon as I wake up tomorrow. If it worked with the cds there should be no problem in working the same way with vinyl… hope so

I considered doing something like this as well, but at the time I wanted an Audio8 anyway, so it made sense to spend the extra $100 or so to purchase the full Traktor Scratch kit which came with the Audio8 (academic pricing).

Props on the ingenuity though! We should remind everyone as well that there are other DVS systems out there apart from Serato & Traktor Scratch, like Ms. Pinky!

Yesss

ive tried something similar with my torq conective and an illegal verison of traktor (just for testing pruposes, ive already delted it again, i stick with torq for now)
and it didnt work… i was using my ms pinky and my torq timecodes, because with a friend of mines setup (hes running traktor with audio8) you could spin the timecode backwards, however when i was running it with the conective the timecode didnt repsond at all

Did you “agregate device” and test with Traktor timecode vinyls?

I’m 99% sure that you’re going to need Traktor timecode vinyl to make this work. Most separate brands’ timecode vinyl are encoded with different frequencies, if not completely different bit encoding methods.

no i did not aggregate the device. the torq conective is already a 4x4 soudncard… thought you only did the aggregate thing because you only had a 2x2 soudncard…

ill put a +1% on that :stuck_out_tongue: I cant think of any other timecode thats recorded at the same frequency off the top of my head.

the traktor timecode or the serato one etc isnt actually too different. the difference between mspinky and torq and traktor is bacially thet the torq ones run backwards (in order t pickup the signal better) of course you cant use absolute mode without the right timecode but relative usally works with every timecode (except of the fact that the pithc is usally wrong and it might run backwards…) but in my traktor setup it didnt even get a signal at all or sthg…

yeah, the aggregate device hackery is only required if you don’t have a nice 4x4 soundcard . if you’re not running your lines through a mixer or phono preamp (i’m going to update my post soon since i added my vestax mixer to my setup), make sure you boost the phono signal from your decks as much as possible. you should at least be seeing SOMETHING in the timecode setup page, even if it’s the wrong signal. assuming that you have traktor scratch pro, of course!

yes, thats why i was wondering. i coudl switch to external timecode, i could even setup the soudncard to the cannels which is deck a and deck b etc, however nothing showed up, not even in the calibration thing.. maybe i should try it again someday

I understand is possible to run TSP in vinyl mode with any soundcard as “agregate device” but I’m not sure if it works. I ask for this setup.

About Timecodes they are different and Torq and Ms.P are manufactured by the same (Babytalk FX) it is special one, don’t “mix” things…

Video?

i know that torq and mspinky are the same engine. im talking about serato traktor scratch and final scratch vinyls, just try it by yourself. the timecode is pretty much the same. this dodesnt mean tat you can ctually use it. the ptich is toally out of range, the ms pinky and torq tiemcode runs backwards, and you cant use absolute mode, but its not that the timecode is getting compeltely ignored when using it with other systems. the music plays just in a complety wrong matter but its isnt skipping or soemthing…
however this thread is not about using timecode with another software, i was just wondering that nothing happened at all wehn ive tried it…

Isn’ t?

But you are trying different timecode whe we are talking about pass off the “soundcard Dongle”

Maybe I missed something…

It is not so simple…

Yes it is about using TSP with another hardware and the original timecode.

omg just try it, know that its not the same, but its pretty much the same…

A couple comments on this.

If ‘Ctran’ is truly ‘laughing’ (or whatever) at your first post when you mentioned this, then he could supply you with his Registration number and you can verify it, right?

Secondly, I think I might be naive with this timecode + software + hardware technology, because I can’t wrap my mind around why it would make a difference if he is using a cracked copy of the software or not. Doesn’t the hardware play any specific role in the timecode formula?

Better question…HOW does the hardware play a role in the formula?

If you can ‘crack’ TPro to use any soundcard input, why can’t you do the same for Serato? Shit…that would be the best solution, as they provide their full software package for free, but it’s useless unless you have the SL-1, SL-3, or the TTM-57SL.

…just assumed he meant you…

My point about the timecode and you being able to follow through is that he explicitly stated he had a legit version of the software. Far be it for me to call shenanigans on his comment, but you have the power to validate that claim.

This is pretty serious stuff. If you are able to do this with a legit version of TPro, then it may make the purchase of a Traktor Certified soundcard/mixer obsolete.

Ok,
Anybody else?

I use Ms. Pinky but is pure curiosity!
