Traktor Scratch Pro vs Serato Scratch Live

Id love to know why..? Did i wrong you ?

I havent actually given any opinion on Traktor vs Serato. There would be no point. If i were the OP i wouldnt take my opinion seriously cus im am clearly biased.

when did that happen? how did i miss i?

Anyone owning Traktor 3 and the original Traktor Scratch BEFORE TSP was released received a FREE upgrade to Traktor Scratch Pro.

Anyone who purchased Original Traktor Scratch with a certain Grace Period also received a FREE update to TSP.

Sorry for this late quote, but for a fresh starting out DJ like me I would go for Serato if I had read this before I chose traktor.
Traktor has a basic FX interface that can be interesting to total newbies like me, if you are not use to all those effects and parameters that appers at Advanced Effect Mode, you can always change it to the simple mode, and all parameters will be set to a default value, you will use only the dry/wet to play simple with it.
You can become a little more interested in chose preset configurations to your effects as soon as you become bored of all basic effects, in this point of your life I think Serato would become boring and Traktor will become more interesting to you.
But anyway, Traktor can do amazing things. I’m a newbie DJ, I don’t know how to play on a CDJ + Mixer setup, but I still can play with Traktor + M-Audio Oxygen. Even with all advanced options I could look at, as i don’t need them yet, they don’t bother me yet.

oooh… when did tpro come out? i got my vci end of april/start of may. when i looked around for t3 (week later) it was being discontinued then. must’ve been a smidge too late?
would’ve got pro then, but found genuine bnib t3 for £40 (not ebay either)

Yeah the Grace Period ended in Dec 08 and you needed to already have both T3 and TS before they were discontinued.

Sorry about that.

I just switched from SSL to TPro last week. Traktor is CLEARLY superior in SSL. One can master the SSL software in an afternoon. I felt limited with SSL the day after I bought it. Traktor is virtually impossible to outgrow.

Hope this helps.

I have gone back and forth between TPro and Serato. I recently had my laptop and VCI-100 SE arcade mod stolen from my car so I’m starting from scratch as far as controllers and softwares go, and I have debated this question many times in my head…

IMHO, Traktor simply kicks ass is all aspects except for “classical mixing skills”. i.e. Effects, 4 decks, sound quality… etc… (I purchased an Audio 2 DJ which worked wonderfully with TPro… 1.5 ms latency which was pretty good for the laptop I was using.)

But when it came down to what I really loved about DJing in the first place, I decided to go back to the “basics” and I picked up a VCI-300 and Itch. It allowed me to go back to my turntablist roots and mixing doubles etc for hip-hop. I realize ITCH is a stripped down version of SSL but the basics of what I wanted were there. Yes, Serato is ugly and basic… But it is stable and it has excellent controller response when it comes to the required “classical mixing” skills. Much better than the VCI-100.

I remember reading Eans review about this basic mixing unit called the Numark iDJ2 and the thing he enjoyed about it was it allowed him to get back into enjoying the music and mixing… And that’s what I wanted. That’s what got me in the DJ business decades ago…

Now that being said, if Traktor or N.I. or whoever comes out with a controller with jog wheels as responsive as the VCI-300 / ITCH pairing, I would certainly recommend Traktor!!! I believe that the controller response issue is the ONLY thing keeping many from making the Serato to Traktor jump.

Maybe there’ll be some news at NAMM concerning this?

@thebeatworx

I use Traktor with controllers that are more responsive than the VCI-300. My turntables. Good thing about having Traktor Scratch Pro is that I can use the ‘classical mixing’ setup or a VCI based one depending on where I am playing and the equipment available. No needing to own a seperate program for DVS or controllerism.

I do agree that the VCI-300/Itch integration is pretty nice though mainly due to the high-resolution messages being sent.

For non scratch DJs who don’t need turntables, I still firmly believe SSL has nothing to offer over a booklet of CDs besides a sampler and constant airhorns and most samples are damn annoying anyway.

@bradcee. not really techtools its self, most people like tsp better because of its better integration with controllers and traktor in general because of all the support for traktor on techtools. thats not a bad thing at all, but this site while it is DIRECTED to all digital djs and software users does tend to focus on traktor. hell i just ordered scratch duo and an audio4dj instead of going SSL. not necessarilly a bad thing to be biased.

That came from the left for me, too.

Nah, just having a dig. You’ve left me in stitches on more than one occasion while I’ve been trawling DJTT and NI forums, and felt like an appropriate thing to say.

Honestly, didn’t expect a reaction. You cool.

I am cool.
