Traktor Scratch Pro with Turntable and Vestax Vci 100
Hello, I have a few questions about how to use Traktor Scratch pro with turntables and a vestax vci 100. I am fairly new to this new software, before I used Traktor 3. I have 2 technics 1200’s and a VCI 100. Can you use both the turntables and the vestax all together? If so, how do I get it to work properly? I can use the turntables and the vestax for effects and the filter but as for playing more than 2 tracks, it wont let me..can it be done with just a 2 channel mixer? if anyone has any information about this, I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks..
Do you mean with an external mixer? If so I imagine you could control decks C & D with the VCI-100 and A & B with the turntables… (provided you have a soundcard with 8 outputs and a 4 channel mixer)
… if so I imagine you could use internal mixing on the VCI-100 and use the turntables as opposed to the jog wheels for control over decks A & B?
Not 100% sure but that’s the two possibilities I would envisage. I sense I’ve mis-interpretted what you’re asking about though but thought I’d try and help on this cold wet horrible morning
You can use the turntables to control decks and the VCI-100 as your mixer. It actually can work really well if you jump between absolute and relative modes of the turntables and use the VCI to control more advanced functions (cue and beatjuggling, effects, etc.)
I want to get my setup to do the same. Is there a tsi for this or is it something we need to map ourselves? Once i have a four channel mixer again i will mix externally but until then it will be cool to be able to use my turntables and VCI together. Got a pair of Traktor TC vinyl now too. So just need the mixer and upgrade my Audio 4 to the 8. That will be wicked.
is anyone actually doing this as i cant get it to work at all. Everytime i touch the vci platters i get a horrible sound from the decks that are being controlled by the cdjs ? like a dodgy tiny echo effect.
If anyone has this working please let me know as it annoys the hell out of me that i cant get it working.
would love to know how you have it set up, are you using eans mapping? do you have the vci controlling decks a and b or d and d? any info would be maaarvelous
Moley, it could be because the jogs are set to seek, and you have the control mode to absolute, so when you go to seek through the track on the VCI Traktor spazzes cause it needs to track the needle location.
I’m using the load function bult into the tsi which means when i load into c or d the control on the tsi switches to c or d functionality. meaning when i move the jogs they try to control c or d aswell as the timecode cd.
Guess i need to make some tweaks to the tsi to sort some other way of loading to c or d deck. Have you not had to do this panda?
I use Traktor Scratch Pro with 2 turntables, a VCI-100 Arcade Addition and a DJM800. I modified Ean’s tsi file but it will work without modifying it.
The noise you are referring to happens when you touch the VCI platter of a deck currently controlled by the time code vinyl. You can’t use the VCI platters unless you are either in internal mode on that deck or in fader fx mode Traktor gets confused. All other functions work sync, cue jumps, effects in relative mode. The VCI platter can still control all of the other decks as long as they are in internal mode at the same time as another deck in relative mode.
I modified Ean’s tsi so that when I press shift plus the headphone cue button it switches a deck to relative mode for decks 1 & 2. If you press the headphone cue button alone it switches it back to internal mode. I made a few other mods as well. I can share it if you want but it’s a pretty easy change.
That would be nice mate. I dont have Scratch…only T Pro…but tested over the weekend with the demo version and could get it working nicely. As you say…you just need to tweak it to work how you want it to. I would like to use the Turntables in internal mode tho. I have an X session pro which i could map to be the sync…drop and cue buttons and also to control the Fx for the turntable deck. I either need to upgrade to the Audio 8 and get a four channel mixer…or get a controller and create a mapping to control the other two decks. That take over thing in Traktor is pants.
If your mixing in internal mode then I think your audio 4 + VCI-100 should be fine to utilize all four decks. You would use the two inputs for the turntables and then one output for you master out. You can’t play real vinyl but the control vinyl should work fine as you mentioned.
The modification I made was to switch a deck between relative and internal mode. I mix externally although that shouldn’t matter. I attached my tsi but it might be easier to just describe. I made it a little bit better yesterday by using just one button to switch between the modes and light up when the deck is in relative mode.
Add the following for each deck:
Modifier 1 Button Direct when M1=0 make M1=1
Modifier 1 Button Direct when M1=1 make M1=0
Modifier 1 output LED
Scratch Mode INT/REL/ABS Button Direct when M1=o then Relative Mode
Scratch Mode INT/REL/ABS Button Direct when M1=1 then Internal Mode
I hope this helps. If you still wanted to use the headphone cue button with shift just and that M7=1 our whatever your shift button modifier and number is.
I always thought it was silly to have a turntable setup where you needed to use a mixer in conjunction with the vci 100. the vci is already a mixer. Can you show a pic of this setup possibly?
