Transitioning from Drumstep to Dubstep?

Transitioning from Drumstep to Dubstep?

Hey guys I have my first show thats going to be on Live speakers (usually i do house shows) and it’s a DJ battle so I really wanna WOW the croud with my skills. I want to transition from dubstep to Drumstep (140(70 half time) to 86-90)
for all you dj’s who spin dubstep and drumstep my question is how do you do the transitions?

thanks for your help!!

echhhhhooooooo freeeezzzeeeeeee

freeeezzzeeeeeee

is this from drumstep to dubstep or opposite or does it not matter

you can go from anything to just about anything else with that little chap  awesomely useful effect…

alright thanks man! I’ll try this out in traktor tonight

Point of information: Drumstep is technically around 175bpm DnB speed with half time drums, in the same way that Dubstep is 140 with 70bpm drums.

Sorry, I’m a pedant.

i usually transition with dubstep/drumstep remixes of the same song.. listed to my latest mix on SC

Oldschool fader slam, turntable fx, pitching down from 175 to 140, echo freeze…

freeze the dubstep track, let it echo a bit

have a drumstep track with like 4 beats of epic vocals before the drop (example [dubstep though])
have the track cued to the start of the vocals.

then track 1 gets quiet/ when it feels right, play the vocals.
watch your ‘attack’ so that it doesnt sound really sudden

My favorite way to get from drumstep to dubstep is to just play “Yes” by Bassnectar lol. Between the second and third drops the bpm slows down from 174 to 140. I did it in my latest mix

at around 38:30

theres a million techniques and theyre all fun. not mentioned is speeding up or down both tracks during longer breakdowns. this can sound cheesy, but used the right way it’s plain awesomeness.

check out “13 minutes of bass” in the dubstep mix competition (mixes forum sticky) for some examples!

what i do is…

have the dubstep playing at its standard 140bpm @33rpm on my technics, then use say a high or low pass filter to quiet it down.

when its at its quietest, on the turntable, change it to 45rpm, and drop the pitch control right to as slow as poss.

meanwhile make sure you then bring the filter back up! and hey presto.. its now in dnb tempo, and you can mix the drumstep in. (do it immediately though as dubstep @ 174bpm gets old very fast!)

(:

I like to mix it in over a breakdown and then speed it up during the build up to the drop, it really builds the energy then. (this is going dubstep to drumstep)

I can’t figure out how to freeze the track.. I tried in both VDJ and Tracktor scratch pro 2. any advice?

Mix on break downs, backspins (put on an echo effect for a twist), or if you have DVS vinyl you could press stop on the turntable and let the record slow down to a stop and drop the next record.
