Hey guys, will TSP timecode work with my maya 44 USB or do i need to shell out on an audio 4 / 8 DJ? Also does anyone know if the multicore cables will work with this soundcard as being able to interchange between PC / Vinyl that easily would be great.
so what would people recommend for starting to dj
i have an m-audio oxygen and lpd8 which i use for producing in ableton and i got a traktor pro demo which is really fun.
im pretty keen on going down the vinyl route and i kind of want the effects that are available in traktor pro but TSP is too expensive. could i route traktor through ableton and use vst effects?
If you are gonna implement monome or something similar go Ms. Pinky maxforlive patch.
If not, take deckadance or PinkyVst (doesn’t need maxforlive enviroment).
If you want more wait for Serato The Bridge (but pay Serato).
If you want Traktor go for it, Scratch Duo is a great deal.
Dude, you got balls. But you took your lashing and want to redeem yourself, so we’ll help. Welcome to the forums.
+1 Mudo’s suggestions.
As for your current equipment, have you tried Ean’s mapping in TP? (assuming you have an Oxy 8 V2) Let me know if I can help you get the Oxy up to speed. For the LPD8, don’t have one but a mate does (nice kit), have you looked in the Mapping forum as there is mappings for TP in there (again, don’t know if they are good).
Yeah the lpd and the oxygen are great, i have my own mappings for them, inspired by eans but my keyboard is a 49 not 25 so i get faders etc.
are you suggesting going with traktor pro and controllers?
I think i want to start with some platters at least and the traktor demo cuts out after 30 mins so i want to move on and make an investment. I just downloaded the deckadance demo and it looks good but i think i will buy traktor scratch duo and upgrade to the pro software for the extra functionality.
In response to my first question, you can buy traktor scratch pro just as software but it appears you need to have an audio 4/8.
Yes, but it all depends on you. Your style of playing and what you want to accomplish as a DJ.
Personally, I’m not a hardcore “controllerist”. That said, I will probably only use controllers, but I’m not into the full blown FX side of things. I enjoy watching other do it (Ean is just sick), but I mix a little more a-la David Mancuso in that I let the music talk.
Vinyl is still cool and always will be, and it is probably still the hardest to beatmatch with (therefore the highest skill level). But times change and DJing advances. Beatmatching remains a critical skill, but is possible to learn on controllers. You first need to learn about song structure, how to find the “one” and stuff. Setting a beat grid properly (remember the software is only about 60% efficient at beatgrids of EDM, forget anything else) is a skill too. I don’t like Sync, but beatgridding is still a good way to get under your song and understand it technically.
So if you have an idea of where you want to go with your DJing, you can make better decisions on purchases that will build you towards your goals. If you have no idea and are just experimenting to find out where you want to go, then controllers offer a great way in. But get some platters!!
Ask away, we’re here for that.
Phil.
P.S. yes, you need an A4DJ or A8DJ to benefit from that upgrade.
