Twister - Possible to enter and exit Shift Pages via latching / toggle side button, or external midi commands?

Is it possible to enter and exit Shift Pages via a latching / toggle side button (instead of the default momentary behavior), or via external midi commands? In my situation it is not practical to have to hold the side button to stay in the Shift Page while turning the knobs.

If not, maybe via a custom firmware?

Btw, it would be quite helpful if there were more than 4 banks. I suppose this is not possible? Thus I am exploring the shift page option.

In looking into expanding banks beyond 4. Stay tuned. For shift pages it’s hold only atm, we can add toggle but it would need a MFU update to add the setting there, otherwise it would need a custom firmware that replaces hold with toggle.

What other things you think twister can either do better or wish it could do?

Great to know there are some possibilities! I just realized from the manual that the Shift Pages only send commands from the switches (knob presses). I was thinking it could also send messages from the rotary encoders, thus I thought it could be like a virtual bank. Is this the current situation? Perhaps this could be added to the feature request list, especially if more than 4 banks is not a reasonable thing to happen. Thank you!

If memory serves me right (someone else handled the original firmware) it was to better differentiate the shift pages from the rest. Shift encoders also exist but it’s on a per encoder basis.

I don’t think there is a hardware limitation on having more than 4 banks but rather the extra channels it would take and shuffling around shift encoders, super knobs, animation and system messages. Not imposible but needs a proper sit down and rethink how to do it without breaking current mappings.

ah ok things can get complicated, I understand! I will explore the possibility to make use of the Shift Encoder Toggle option. Thanks for providing more understanding about this!

Regardless, toggle for shift pages A/B will be an option in the next MFU build and Twister firmware coming out soon.

8 banks might be a no go due to RAM limitations (unless we do a major rework on how Twister operates), 6 might be feasable.

Shift toggles implemented in the firmware and MFU now.

Wow, great news! That will be very helpful, thanks so much! Might going in and out of Shift Page be able to respond to an incoming midi message (as bank switching does)? For fast performance use, I automate various things from a central controller (Lemur).

Got 8 banks going! Had to disable the sequencer to get enough RAM. For folks still using the sequencer we can have an option to do 4/6 banks + sequencer or 8 banks.

Shift layers might go since they have become a bit reduntant and make room for other stuff. the side button options are starting to get REALLY crowded

:exploding_head: :star_struck: Wow amazing! I’m ok with not having shift layers and sequencer. Awesome news, thanks sooo much!!
