Found two X1’s in a Guitar Center in GA. They should arrive on Wednesday!
Now im on the hunt for an external mixer. Really had my hopes set on a Xone 92, but its well above my price range. Trying to do this on a tight budget so have been looking at some used gear or B-Stock items. Figured i’d order the Xone 42, Pro Audio has 2 B-stock ones for 675.00. Thats more in my range, but now I have seen some Ecler Nuo 4’s in the 500-600 range. I enjoy using filters when I transition and think the 42 is a good fit, but saving some money would be great as well. Looked at the Pioneers and I think the 600 is the only one in my price range.
well thats just plain BAD advice! the 600 is a TERRIBLE mixer for the money! Either go xone or the ecler, although if i had the choice id go with the xone42.
There is way better mixers than the DJM-600 for the price, it was a standard a long time ago, but the industry has made considerable advancements since those days.
My bigger question is what you plan on doing for a sound card?. Those mixers don’t have that.
Gotcha, well if that’s the case, I can personally vouch for the Ecler Nuo 4, absolutely fantastic manufacturer, great quality and features, I have nothing but good things to say about them in general
I’ve also heard great things about the Xone 42, so I would say those two choices are a good start.
doesn’t the xone 42 just have those four dinky lights instead of a proper level meter on the faders? nuo 4 is an excellent mixer too, although I will say I have a weird obsession with allen and heath and really want to own one of their mixers at some point. djm 600 is a def no.
living in miami there’s a bunch of locations to get gigs that, that already have systems in place. Would be much easier to plug in two X1’s and a sound card to the house mixer. If thats what is being used than I should replicate that system. I thought about all midi, but, read up the sound quality and control is more accurate with an external mixer. Something has to lead Richi Hawtin, Carl Cox, etc. to use and external mixer vs. an all midi set up.
I would use a faderfox and two X1’s or a similar set up if it was small mobile gig though.
also a part of me wants to explore timecode and some tech 1200’s.
I am recently taking the external mixer route as well, compared to all midi. Ordered a Xone 32 for home use based mostly on price. But it is for home use so I didn’t need something too pricey. Now ordered a presonous firebox for mixing of three channels. I figured three was fine and that I would rarely need 4 decks for mixing Electro/Hip Hop. Anywas, I’d get the 42 for sure, I was also looking into that mixer.
that something is both tradition, and having huge wads of cash lieing around.
Analog mixers can help make your sound. if you had 30 djs in traktor internally spinning the same set (down to the knob twist), you wouldnt have as much variation as you would if you had those 30 djs on 30 different analog mixers.
They stay analog because there are loads of awesomely good sounding analog devices. Some people say the filters on the xone mixers are worth the money themselves. There are also tons of analog effects that people really love.
Now, the effects in traktor are really good, I’m not shooting down those, I freaking love em.
I love my VCI-100 and think I do pretty damn well and am as versatile as I need to be (right now) with it. But if have two x1’s controlling Traktor, i think what else can I add to my set. I’ve read the Xone’s have great filters, the 92 has 4 eq knobs, etc. so I am leaning that route.
Honestly mostly because its easier to go to a place with two X1’s and plug in that it is to take a VCI-100. Add in timecode and using turntables and a VCI-100 to take somewhere just wouldn’t fit in the picture.
