UMC32+ Build Log

UMC32+ Build Log

Hi guys,
Just thought I’d share what I’ve been up to for the past couple of weeks. Hope you like.

I wanted an effects controller to complement my 2 midi fighters and make browsing through tracks a bit easier.

Parts:
16 pots
12 Arcade Buttons
1 3 way rotary switch
1 UMC32+

The top and bottom plates are 3mm acrylic and the sides are 12mm MDF to add a little support.

Spray painted with a black metallic paint with a stick on stencil to try and get the led to shine through the front plate, didn’t work as well as expected

Wiring up everything. I found by wiring the 3 way switch as on off on each of their own pins it can be used to scroll menus really well as the UMC does not support encoders.

Finished and I think it’s looking good.
Now just to map it.

I would highly recommend using the UMC32 for any one looking to get into the DIY Midi world.

Interesting controller you’ve made here. How much was the entire project and how long did it take you?

Awesome job!

Thanks mate.

All up it cost around $250 to build. I splurged a bit on the pots because i wanted ones that had a smooth action and would hold up to a bit of abuse.

Once i had all the parts and decided on the layout i had it knocked up in a couple of weeks.

the pots look nice - where did you get them?

I got the pots from Jaycar. The biggest downfall I can give them is there tiny solder lugs but they have a smooth motion.
I’ll let you know what breed they are when I get home from work if you like.

verry happy to hear you’ve chosen the UMC32 it’s the best!

yes please

Sorry about the huge delay Milo. I had a look on those pots for a brand or some sort of marking they have Alpha on the base of them that’s it.
