USB hub

Is it a shame to use a 4 ports USB hub for $6 and connect a Kontrol X1, Audio interface and another controller to?

I can say for sure that there will be those who will look down upon it, but as long as it works for long periods of time you should be fine.
I’m thinking that it’ll be a bit tricky if all of your equipment is bus-powered. A bit tricky in the sense that some of your pieces of equipment might not even work. It’ll definitely help to get a powered hub though.
Why would some of it not even work?
The USB port won’t be able to supply enough power to juice all the equipment your plugging in.
In the FAQ there is a thread on “hub latency” that covers a little about why non-powered hubs are tricky. But basically, if the computer is supplying the max of 5V at @ 500 mA, then there is no way it can power the hub AND still get full power to EACH user on the hub.
Your audio card is the MOST critical connection in your DJ set-up and therefore should only ever be plugged into the computer directly (don’t go looking for more sources of latency or power issues). Controllers with LEDs tend to need close-to-max power, especially if it has a lot of LEDs, so powered hubs only. And then there are switching issues within the hub itself: often cheap hubs have a single throughput capacity and just switch between users, causing potential loss of data if a user sends data while another is being tended to.
Hubs in general should be avoided, but a good, powered, multi-tt hub can be a solution for all but your sound card.
