Use s4 on midi mode

Use s4 on midi mode

Hey i’m very interested for the midi mode, but i would like to know how to use it with an other software like soundboard plz???
Help me i had tried with the controller editor but it don’t want to work on it.

You have to switch to midi mode first. On your S4, hit “shift” + “browse” buttons. This will change the device to Midi Mode, and you should then be able to map the controls to any program that can work with midi controllers.

The controller editor will give you the channel assignments and such.

That’s what i already did, but it don’t work… plz help^^

Either you’re not doing it correctly, didn’t install your drivers correctly or you have a defective unit (which I doubt).

When you switch modes, the LEDs should change dramatically. I know this works because I’ve already mapped the S4 to Virtual DJ using midi mode.

yes my leds changed but the soundboard software don’t reconize the s4 midi key…

Are you trying to map certain things in Soundboard to the controller? If you turn midi on while the S4 software is running does the ctrl light come on when you press a button or move something?

Also check the controller editor in the native instruments application folder. You can switch what messages the controller sends out in there.

doyou mean when i’m on midi mode…?

Yes, when you switch the S4 to midi mode and press something on the controller does the ctrl light come on in the software. It’s at the top near the center.

no it don’t light on…

Hi, Is it possible for you to send the mapping? my id is djsharkin@gmail.com. Thanks

Hi, i am looking for S4 to Virtual DJ mapping .

i have the same issue, but, my ctrl light is responsive

when im in midi mode on s4mk2, and want to learn a key inside traktor mapping itself, it doesnt recognize the keys, but the ctrl is responsive …

any advice?

  • are you really in midi mode
  • did you set up properly your in and out ports
  • are you using the controller editor
  • are you using a generic midi mapping inside the controller manager
  • etc, etc

posting a screen of your controller manager/traktor preferences could help.

-Im sure im in midi mode, the lights change and the display says on
-when i create a new tsi for the new midi mapping, i choose the s4 as port, didnt make any other changes
-installed the editor, keys are responsive there, but im not using it for anything …
-I was using the default mapping before, in normal mode, in combination with some tsi sheets i mapped to my push and s4 myself to expand my control.

Do i have to make a generic midi mapping instead of the user mappings maybe?
Does this also mean i have to rewrite my custom user tsi files in midi mode aswel? :disappointed:

May be you got your answer:
user mode is the native protocol (ie not midi)
midi is ..midi
the s4 doesn’t send both type of messages at the same type (not exactly true but you get the idea).

so yes (depends on what you do/want) and yes (note that there is within the files a s4 user midi mapping somewhere - as far as I remember - so I’m not sure what you call a ‘user’ file).
As for the external editor, yes you may need to use it to set up some of the buttons messages/types.
