VCI-100 problem

VCI-100 problem

Hi guys, first of all, sorry for my bad English.

In last event i accidentally dropped my VCI-100, now i have problem, when i turn up both volume sliders, vci turns off.

Right volume slider doesn’t work.
I’ll post video, then you will understand

Maybe there are some way how to fix it, cause i have one week left till next gig.

Thanks

I am no expert on this stuff, but that fader problem looks like a short circuit and the VCI looks like it turns off but is probably going into overload protection! I would recommend you NOT use it until you have it repaired.

Phil.

But, how can i repair it? Maybe some hints, because in my country (Latvia) there is no vestax support or service.

Thanks

I see your issue with getting service. Let me try and offer a couple of suggestions.

If you open up your VCI, and unplug the bad fader, does everything work OK?

If yes, then plug the right fader plug into the left fader. If everything still works OK, then you just have a bad fader, and you can even try cleaning it to see if it helps (look around on this forum for ways to clean a fader).

If you are still having problems after unplugging the right fader or plugging the right fader wires into the left fader, you probably have damage to one of the boards. For this you will have to find which board and replace it or send the whole unit to the closest repair facility (I know this could be difficult but it is your best chance to find the real problem).

Let us know how your troubleshooting goes.

Phil.

use the the crossfader or a tempo fader as a volume fader. I have not touched a crossfader for regular mixing in years(scratching is a different story).

@tabs, that is where I was going with this once he determines that the board is not at fault. Good suggestion though.

Phil.

Ok, i will try it asap.
Btw everything worked when i slide that fader up, not lightly, but with some pressure, then fader works and vci is not switching off.

Thanks

sounds like a solder point may have came undone, if you slide it up with pressure it may be completing the circuit.

So, crossfader works very good.

So, i’ll try to open it up, and look for some bad solder points, i’ll def updating this post.

update1:
Weird, i opened it up, and now everything works better than expected.
When i put everything back, its doing that sh*t again, when i make pressure on right fader, but that little knob, when im leaning it to left side it works great. hmm… without putting it back in case it works awesome, in case - not

update2:

i found the problem,
slider from inside is black plastic, and when that little plastic touches top case, it’s starting to send random midi signals/sometimes switching off.

update3:

k, i put little piece of carton, it works, but when i tighten the screws its not working, and doing random stuff, when i unleash them little bit, everything works great.

so i think there is some microcrack in graphite plate, best what to do is to change it, maybe someone has one, i can buy it from you, but i need very fast shipping
haha.

ok, i’ll test something more out.

I need a circuit board myself.

If anyone has a vci-100 for parts, now is the time since it looks like a couple people need them:slight_smile:

monZy, is the case bent from the fall? This could force the fader contacts to not touch the resistance strip inside. Just a thought…

Phil.

I think, that not, only in one corner there is little bump.

Okey, now it works - without one screw and with carton and some plastic cutouts.

If you have slider, email me please - iespoto [at] gmail [dot] com
