vci100---> apc40

vci100—> apc40

hi, iv had a vci100 for a while now and want to move to the apc 40.
would you agree that it is a better controller?
also, how usable is it with traktor?
are there plenty of mappings avaliable?
thanks

It’s an awesome controller, but mapping it from scratch has some extra headaches. I never owned a VCI so I can’t compare but the APC does the job pretty nicely in Traktor.

ah sweet
so it functions fully and isnt impossibly complicated to use?
and also, are there any 2 deck tsi’s kicking about or are they all 4? im not too bothered, just wondering.
thanks

Mine is 4 decked but focuses on 2 decks at a time (like the S4). You could remap the C&D functions quite easily.

It has plenty of room for new stuff too.

I have a VCI100 and just completed my APC80.

The difference is that the APC can handle more than the VCI on one page\mode.

You don;t have to go into different pages to get to layered functions etc.

Its all there…no soft-takeover etc.

I love it!

I enjoyed my transition, but there are some headaches, as mentioned. I messed around mapping my vci before the switch, and had them both at one time for a while. I liked the layout of the vci a bit better, and occasionally I am nostalgic about the jogs, but my workflow is much more seamless now with the APC. I also have an X1 now for effects, so I have transport, loop control, full 4 channel 3 band eq with filters, 8 hotcues per deck, loop routing, and tempo/pitch control all on the APC. It’s pretty nice.

so the general consensus is that the acp40 is better?

Dunno if it’s better than a vci-100 SE with DJTT mapping… the mapping is super amazing and tactile and would have been an epic epic headfuck to program from scratch.

If the VCI-100 had rotary knobs for the gains it would be perfect for me.

hmmm
well i currently have a 1.2 fw version so by the time i upgrade n stuff its gonna cost a fair bit
so i was thinking a getting an apc.
wise move or not?

To me the vci is limited I had one and i hate how u can only control one set of effects at one time, had to always switch modes and 4-deck mixing on it is a pain. the apc already has more knobs and faders to its possible.

I’m only saying this once: 9 banks with 8 LED illuminated knobs and buttons without touching a single modifier (plus the ones on the top). Oh, and no more soft takeover (L)

right yer im defo getting one
can someone fill me in as to what a ‘soft takeover’ is?

would just say though, don’t write off the VCI before you try the new FW. It’s a completely different machine with 1.4.

The point made about the effect section is valid, but I honestly don’t remember the last time I used the effects section since I now generally rely either on fader FX mode or my midifighter. Also, the instant slice and echo buttons are super handy, but you could map them to an APC.

hmm
i have the vci but as far as i can see, the apc can do all that the vci can do AND more
also, it looks insane haha

It can do this and much more XD

MOAAAAR SHINNY LIGHTS

Each to their own and I mean that sincerely. I’m into 2 deck mixing with a few choice fx. I’m not into messing with music too much. The music I play i like listening to unmixed, it’s good music.

The 1.2 version and the 1.4 SE are chalk and cheese mate. I pretty much hated my VCI till i did the upgrade.

Until you’ve used it though it’s hard to explain… it’s just tactile and intuitive.

It suits me perfectly for my needs.

I could not live without:
Jogs (I come from vinyl /cdj background and i like to nudge jogs for tempo and wheel them back and froth to find the beginning of a song)
Fader FX - seriously amazing
Arcade Buttons - no better buttons in the world for controllerism
Juggle Mode - again super intuitve and wicked with arcade buttons
Sampler - nice touch
Pre mapped echo and slicer buttons for instant jazzamatazz
It’s compact to take to parties/clubs.

If you asked me to swap with an apc I wouldn’t. But it wouldn’t occur to me because i am basically 99% satisfied with the VCI SE now - also it’s custom and fucking cool.

I also compliment my set up with a LPD8 for the odd few things i might like to do (trigger samples, few super knobs, mic control) but i hardly touch to be honest.

I’m certainly not dissing the apc, i’m sure it’s heavy, but you asked is it better.

For me, I wouldn’t swap.

If you’re interested in the arcade mod i’ve written all about how to do it on my blog (check my signature)

thats got me thinking-what exactly IS fader fx?
and whats the sampler?
how do you ‘sample’
thanks

ok thanks padi.
can someone tell me what the sampler does on the vci and what 'soft takeover ’ is

Soft takeover is when, for example, a hardware knob’s position doesn’t match it’s counterpart in software. If soft takeover is on, the software knob will start moving once the hard one reaches the value the 1st one had. If it is off then the soft one will jump to the value the physical knob has, creating undesired results.

If I’m not clear enough, the manual explains it quite nicely
